Newly empowered Democrats are refusing White House demands for $5bn  towards constructing such a wall,but Mr Trump said last week he would be “proud” to shut down his own government if he does not secure the funding.

About a quarter of the federal government, including the departments of Homeland Security, Transportation, Agriculture, State, and Justice – will shut down at midnight on Friday if no deal is reached.

The Canadian Dominion Diamond mine says it has broken its own record for the largest diamond ever found in North America, announcing the “unexpected” discovery of a 552-carat yellow gemstone.

The company says this diamond “far surpasses” the previous record-holding stone found at the mine in 2015.

It was found in October at the Diavik Diamond Mine in the Northwest Territories, which is 135 miles south of the Arctic Circle.

Zhang came to law enforcement’s attention in July 2018 when he threatened to use firearms to kill school children during an internet chat session on the Department of Veteran’s Affairs (VA) Crisis Line, and law enforcement officers arrested  him at a gas station close to his residence, sitting in a vehicle with two loaded and ready-to-fire firearms, including an AM-15 rifle.

 Zhang, 22, a resident of La Marque, Texas, illegally remained in the United States two years after his temporary visa expired.

At least 12 people were killed in a shooting at a dance bar hosting a night for college students in southern California, where the gunman, identified as the 28-year-old Marine Corps veteran    Ian David Long used a .45 caliber handgun with an extended magazine to carry out the rampage, dying at the scene after police arrived at the Borderline Bar and Grill in Thousand Oaks.

Police responded three minutes after receiving reports of shots fired, with a sheriff’s sergeant Ron Helus hit by gunfire “multiple times” as he entered the bar, Ventura Country Sheriff Geoff Dean told reporters. He was the first to enter the bar, was pulled out of the line of fire by a fellow officer and transported to a nearby hospital where he died of his wounds in addition to 11 victims inside.

The mass shooting is at least the second across the U.S. in less than two weeks after a gunman opened fire in a Pennsylvania synagogue, killing 11. It is also the deadliest since a gunman opened fire in a Florida high school, killing 17 people nine months ago.

President Donald Trump said on Twitter that he has “been fully briefed on the terrible shooting,” thanking first responders for their “great bravery.”

US Supreme Court judge Ruth Bader Ginsburg, 85 has fractured three ribs in a fall on Wednesday, the court says, after a fall in her office at the Supreme Court in Washington.

She experienced discomfort and went to George Washington University Hospital, where tests showed that she had fractured three ribs on her left side and she has been admitted for observation and treatment.

Ms. Ginsburg, who is the most senior justice on the court’s liberal wing, was not present for Thursday’s inauguration of Brett Kavanaugh, whose appointment led to protests following allegations of sexual misconduct. The appointment, confirmed last month by the Senate, restores the nine-member court’s conservative majority.

Ricky Taylor, a ten-year Army veteran who served two tours in Afghanistan has offered to take Rep. Maxine “Why would I take my time to go and sit and listen to a liar? … He doesn’t deserve my attention,” Waters’ (D-Calif.) seat at President Trump’s first State of the Union address later today.

Waters is one of several ultra-left Democrat lawmakers who are skipping the event, the reason being is that Trump is “the most despicable human being that could possibly ever walk the earth.”

“You can call us what you want, but we’re still going to support our president, there’s so many Trump supporters out there that are minorities,” Taylor said. 

 “She doesn’t speak for everybody, she surely doesn’t speak for me,  she does this for a publicity stunt. She does it to kind of pander to her audience.”
 

“And I just thought it was extremely disrespectful for her to say that about the president,” said “Deplorable Vet” Taylor, after the Hillary’s “I have no recollection of my email server” Clinton’s infamous “basket of deplorables” remark, a remark that cost her the presidency.

Rep. Sean Duffy (R-Wis.) announced a formal invitation to Taylor to join him at the big speech.

 A former Hadley, Massachusetts, police officer named Christopher M. Roeder, 48, of Feeding Hills was arrested and charged in federal court in Springfield in connection with using unreasonable force during an arrest, deprivation of rights under color of law and one count of falsification of a document. 


Each one of the three counts can result in a sentence of no greater than 10 years in prison, three years of supervised release, and a fine of up to $250,000.
