Two Mississippi-licensed physicians and two Mississippi-licensed registered nurses, identified as Shahjahan Sultan, MD, 37, of Madison, Mississippi, Thomas Edward Sturdavant, MD, 56, of Kingsport, Tennessee, Freda Cal Covington, RN, 54, of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, and Fallon Deneem Page, RN, 36, of Soso, Mississippi, were charged in an indictment unsealed today for their roles in a multimillion dollar scheme to defraud TRICARE, the health care benefit program serving US military, veterans and their respective family members, as well as private health care benefit programs Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi and United Healthcare of Mississippi.

The indictment alleges that Sultan, Sturdavant, Covington and Page participated in a scheme to defraud TRICARE and private health care benefit programs by prescribing and dispensing medically unnecessary compounded medications, some of which included ketamine, a controlled substance, to individuals, at times without first examining them, for the purpose of having an Ocean Springs, Mississippi-based compounding pharmacy dispense these medically unnecessary compounded medications.

In addition, Sultan was charged with two counts of mail fraud, one count of conspiracy to distribute and dispense a controlled substance, two counts of distributing and dispensing a controlled substance, one count of conspiracy to pay and receive health care kickbacks and four counts of paying health care kickbacks.

Archivists who bought a stash of CDs at a house clearance sale found 2,400 photos of Ground Zero in New York taken following the 9/11 attacks in 2001, say that it appear to have been taken by an unidentified construction worker who helped to clear up the wreckage of the World Trade Center towers and surrounding area.

Last week, after President Xi Jinping visited a rare earths processing facility, China’s National Development and Reform Commission — Beijing’s guiding economic agency — quoted an unnamed official questioning whether the rare earths trade could be China’s “counter-weapon” against the US.

“If [supply was to constrict] it will cause chaos and mayhem in the US industrial ecosystem, similar in scale to the Huawei bans,” Dr Wilson said, referring to the US trade embargo on the Chinese tech giant.

For Dr. Wilson, this unfolding situation serves as an opportune reminder about the need for countries and manufacturers to get “real” about their economies and diversifying their resource suppliers.

This would have a profound effect on the US, according to Dr. Jeffrey Wilson, an expert in international resource politics at Murdoch University.

Is this tragegy a case of sudden anger or madness, a statement of hatred against the government that terminated him, or something even more bizarre? The crime definitely does not match the usual mass murderers “reasons to kill”, like hatred agains a particular religious or racial minority, lifestyle, profound personal failure, or “group think”.

Could it be that he was secretly infatuated with a jihadist or other violent school of thought?

The 12 victims were remembered at a prayer vigil in the city, three others are in hospital with serious injuries, with one victim requiring multiple surgeries, and the police did not comment on a motive, but said Craddock bought his guns legally.

When they disclosed his name, police projected photos on a screen and gave each victim’s name along with biographical details.
