MIDLAND, Texas – A former firefighter in Odessa, Texas, identified as Jeremy Lee Barrera, 36, pleaded guilty  to possessing child pornography and using his cell phone on his employer’s network to access child pornography, after admitting in federal court he used his cell phone on the OFD network to access an online chat room where several videos, which depicted child pornography, were posted. He pleaded guilty to one count of possession of child pornography.

According to court documents, HSI special agents conducting an online child sex exploitation investigation identified two local IP addresses used by an account registered to a “Ray Jones” to enter an encrypted online group chat whose members were viewing child pornography. One IP address was registered to OFD Station #2; the other was registered to Barrera’s residence.

LOS ANGELES – The Justice Department’s Office on Violence Against Women (OVW) will direct more than $33 million in grant funding to California to support efforts to curb domestic violence throughout the state, as the state grapples with the COVID-19 pandemic, with reports indicating that many cities are experiencing surges in domestic violence. The OVW grants will provide resources to local prosecutors, victim service providers, healthcare professionals, training organizations, and academic researchers, including several with national scope. Even with limited prosecutorial authority in domestic violence cases, the federal government remains committed to working with all of its partners to end the scourge of domestic violence.

Disturbing research shows that intimate partner homicides are common, with roughly 1 in 6 homicide victims are killed by an intimate partner.

China’s newly commissioned nuclear-powered submarine, identified as the Type 094A, is equipped with ballistic missiles capable of hitting targets at a distance of 6,200 miles — the most powerful in the country, the South China Morning Post reported, according to a military source.

“The Type 094A is an upgraded version of the Type 094 that overcame one of the key problems – noise – by improving hydrokinetic and turbulent systems, allowing it to carry the more powerful JL-3”, the source disclosed last week.

Before the upgrade, the submarine was capable of firing the inferior JL-2 that could only hit the northeast United States, the source said, noting that currently, it is able to cover the whole American continent.

Authorities in Germany managed to take down one of the world’s biggest child sex abuse platforms following a large-scale investigation which led to several arrests in mid-April, according to a police statement the platform “Boystown” was active since at least June 2019 and had a membership of over 400,000, accessible via the so-called darknet.

Four German citizens between the ages of 40 and 64 were detained in relation to the case, three on suspicion of working as administrators for the platform — one of whom was arrested in Paraguay. Another man was taken in under suspicion of being a registered member and the platform’s most active user, having contributed more than 3,500 posts.
