A leaked cache of secret Chinese Government documents reveals how authorities in Xinjiang province red-flagged 23 Australian citizens during a security crackdown that consigned tens of thousands of people to arbitrary detention and mass indoctrination, providing a rare view of Chinese government network of “training and education” camps in Xinjiang Uyghur community.

The document leak shines more light on the system of mass surveillance, detention used to subjugate minorities, and the operation of detention facilities show they are run like maximum security jails, in addition of how 75 people from China’s Muslim minorities who were singled out in the surveillance sweep because of their passports.

Most of the detainees come from Xinjiang’s Uyghur community, a 10-million-strong ethnic minority of Turkic Muslims who are being collectively punished by Beijing over a series of terrorist incidents carried out by radicals.

The so-called China Cables leak provides a rare insight into what has been described as a dystopian world of surveillance, detention, re-education and forced labour designed to assimilate and pacify Xinjiang’s Muslims.

While the fate of the Australians is unknown, the confidential report instructs public security officials to deport or detain those foreign passport holders for whom “suspected terrorism cannot be ruled out.”

During Tiger TRIUMPH, US and Indian forces conducted valuable training in humanitarian assistance disaster relief operations by inserting a joint and combined Indian and US force from ship-to-shore in response to a hypothetical natural disaster.

While on shore, the forces conducted limited patrolling, moved simulated victims to medical care and produced and distributed drinking water. Military exercises like Tiger TRIUMPH improve partnership, readiness and cooperation.

 When 5th Regiment Sgt. Major Matthew A. Dorsey gathered his Marines for what many expected to be an unexpected award ceremony, thing turned on the ugly side when he pointed at the service members and said, “NCIS, arrest these Marines.” 

With 13 Marines being charged with conspiracy and human smuggling, and another eight troops  questioned – but not charged – in relation to suspected drug activity, lawyers representing the accused have aleged that the public arrest was not only illegal, but also tainted the jury pool.

“We are aware of the charges facing Lance Cpl. Law and Lance Cpl. Salazar-Quintero, and we continue to cooperate fully with the investigative efforts into this matter,” Marine spokesman 1st Lt. Cameron Edinburgh told the Marine Corps Times after the July 3 arrest of the pair.

On Thursday, July 18, Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Yuma special agents arrested Alejandro Escobar-Rivera, 51, and seized 221.22 lbs. of methamphetamine and 5.0 lbs. of cocaine with a combined approximate street value of nearly $4.1 million, as well as multiple cell phones, in a targeted enforcement action led by HSI.

The enforcement activity began when the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office (YCSO), while conducting traffic enforcement July 18 in the area of Avenue B and 24th street, observed a vehicle speeding while traveling northbound on Avenue B approaching 24th street. YCSO proceeded to initiate a traffic stop. Deputies requested the assistance of YCSO K-9 “Jax” which lead to the discovery of approximately 221.22 lbs. of methamphetamine, 5.0 lbs. of cocaine and the arrest of Escobar-Rivera.

Two Leipzig daycare centers reversed moves to remove pork from the menu after the plans sparked a nationwide debate, as plans to no longer serve children pork or gelatin-containing products like gummy bears at two daycare centers in the eastern German city of Leipzig prompted a wave of criticism online and made headlines across the country. 

Responses to the plans grew so heated that Leipzig police decided to park patrol cars outside both of the daycare centers to protect against “possible dangers,” a spokesman told news agency DPA.
