Homeland Security Investigation’s (HSI) office in Cocoa Beach and the Cocoa Beach Police Department arrested a man on Aug. 24 for violation of state law (FSS 836.10) concerning written threats to kill, do bodily injury, or conduct a mass shooting or an act of terrorism.

“This is another example of HSI using our unique international investigative authorities to make our local communities safer,” said HSI Tampa, Orlando Assistant Special Agent in Charge David Pezzutti“.

The strength of our law enforcement partnerships continues to serve as a force-multiplier as we work to ensure the public safety,” said Cocoa Beach Police Chief Scott Rosenfeld.

”HSI Cocoa Beach responded to the Port Canaveral cruise ship terminal and arrested Joseph Lee McKinney, 40, of Leander, Texas, an inbound passenger, for making the threats online several days prior on a local hotel’s website.

 “I am proud of the teamwork displayed and our investigators’ resolve to expeditiously locate and apprehend this individual.”

President Trump cancelled a trip to Poland. while the Florida’s Governor expanded a state of emergency because of Hurricane Dorian, forecast to become a very dangerous category four storm during the weekend before hitting the state’s Atlantic coast.

Authorities cancelled commercial flights, planned precautions at rocket launch sites along the Space Coast, and prepared to give out sand to residents for sandbags ahead of the storm’s arrival

Mr. Trump said at the White House that he was cancelling his visit and remaining in the United States “to ensure that all resources of the federal government are focused on the arriving storm.

The warm summer waters feeding the strenght of Dorian are predicted to pack winds reaching 140 mi/hour in 72 hours,  and Governor Ron DeSantis declared a state of emergency for 26 counties on the east coast, but extended it on Thursday to the whole of Florida.

Ayatollah Johnson also discussed the possibility of a tax on internet giants, following the French government’s decision to approve a digital services tax despite threats of retaliation by the US.

Shaw Air Force Base in South Carolina is planning a tactical stand-down over three days in August and September to help the personnel to “recharge” following the suicides of three airmen in the past year, with the total number of Air Force suicides already reaching 79 this year.

The 79 deaths, which occurred in the Air Force from January to July 2019, were nearly twice as many compared to this time last year, and officials fear 2019 could be the deadliest in history, as the military branch has recorded about 100 suicides per year over the past 5 years.

 Derek O’Malley of Shaw Air Force Base posted a video on Facebook Wednesday detailing their plans to allow Air Force personnel time to recharge their batteries during a Resilience Tactical Pause (RTP) at the base.

 Christopher Rhoton, 35, Justin Strickland, 26, and Jose Llanes, 28, all committed suicide at the base this year, according to Sumter County Coroner Robert Baker.

Earlier today, at the federal courthouse in Brooklyn, Asia Siddiqui and Noelle Velentzas, both citizens of the United States and residents of Queens, pleaded guilty to teaching and distributing information pertaining to the making and use of an explosive, destructive device, and weapon of mass destruction, intending that it be used to commit a federal crime of violence.

When sentenced, the defendants face up to 20 years in prison.

Velentzas and Siddiqui planned to build a bomb for use in a terrorist attack in the United States, and taught each other chemistry and electrical skills related to creating explosives and building detonating devices; conducted research on how to make plastic explosives and how to build a car bomb; and shopped for and acquired materials to be used in an explosive device.

“Inspired by radical Islam, Velentzas and Siddiqui researched and taught each other how to construct bombs to be used on American soil against law enforcement and military targets,” said Assistant Attorney General John C. Demers.

 “Thanks to the tireless work of law enforcement, they were stopped before they could bring their murderous plans to fruition.”

President Trump pledged to retaliate after China announced plans to impose a 10% tariff on $75bn worth of goods imported from the US, the new taxes themselves a response to his plan for a 10% levy on $300bn of Chinese imports, and Wall Street share markets dived following a response to the new tax.

“Our great American companies are hereby ordered to immediately start looking for an alternative to China, including bringing your companies home and making your products in the USA,” Mr.Trump tweeted.

Beijing will also revive a 25% tariff on US car imports that it lifted earlier in 2019 in a goodwill gesture as the two countries tried to negotiate a trade agreement.
