Terrified onlookers were forced to flee when a cruise ship lost control while docking in Venice, smashing into a wharf and hitting a tourist boat, all caught on video as the MSC Opera plowed into the dockside at the San Basilio Cruise Terminal, after a cable used to link cruise ships to tug boats snapped, leading to injuries to four passengers.

Virginia Beach police have vowed to never again speak the name of engineer DeWayne Craddock, an African-American ‘disgruntlled” emploee, who killed 12 people and injured four more after opening fire on a Virginia Beach local government centre, with many of his victims also African-Americans.

Is this tragegy a case of sudden anger or madness, a statement of hatred against the government that terminated him, or something even more bizarre? The crime definitely does not match the usual mass murderers “reasons to kill”, like hatred agains a particular religious or racial minority, lifestyle, profound personal failure, or “group think”.

Could it be that he was secretly infatuated with a jihadist or other violent school of thought?

The 12 victims were remembered at a prayer vigil in the city, three others are in hospital with serious injuries, with one victim requiring multiple surgeries, and the police did not comment on a motive, but said Craddock bought his guns legally.

When they disclosed his name, police projected photos on a screen and gave each victim’s name along with biographical details.

“HSI will continue working with our partners to aggressively investigate cases in which child predators use the internet to further exploit children within our community, and around the world. Child exploitation is a pervasive problem – made more so by the accessibility of the internet and digital media – that demands an aggressive response,” said US Attorney McSwain.

A disgruntled public utilities employee “indiscriminately” opened fire at a local government building in Virginia Beach on Friday afternoon, killing 12 people and wounding at least six others before he was killed himself, with the shooting taking place at a government complex near Virginia Beach City Hall, and is still unclear whether the shooter was killed by shots from police,or committed a suicide

Police said the shooter was a long-term employee of the city but did not identify the man,  and Virginia Beach Chief of Police James Cervera said the precise circumstances of the “devastating” shooting in the coastal resort city remained under investigation, but gave few details of what was known, just saying a police officer was among those who were struck by gunfire but survived, as his bulletproof vest saved his life

FBI agents and Homeland Security Department forensic technicians assisted local police due to the “size and scope and intensity” of the crime scene.

“This is the most devastating day in the history of Virginia Beach,” Mayor Bobby Dyer said at a news conference with the police chief

“The people involved are our friends, co-workers, neighbors, colleagues“.

Daniel Jenkins, 20, and Daryl Henry, 22, were charged by a federal grand jury in a superseding indictment unsealed yesterday with conspiracy to commit hate crimes, kidnapping, and carjacking, announced Assistant Attorney General Eric Dreiband of the Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division.

According to the 15 count indictment—which supersedes a previously filed indictment—members of the conspiracy used Grindr, a dating app for LGBT people, to create fake profiles and pose as gay men interested in “dates” to lure gay men to an apartment complex in Dallas, Texas, in order to commit violent crimes against them, including kidnapping, assault, robbery, and carjacking.

 Members of the conspiracy forced the victims at gunpoint to relinquish their possessions, including their wallets, money, car keys, cars, drivers’ licenses and identification cards, credit and debit cards, and cellular telephones.

 If convicted, both defendants face a maximum statutory penalty of life in prison for the hate crime and kidnapping charges, five years for the conspiracy charge, and a fine of up to $250,000 with respect to each charge.

 The indictment charges both Jenkins and Henry with kidnapping these four victims and Jenkins with kidnapping two additional victims, carjacking two victims, and using a firearm in connection with the carjackings.

President Trump says the United States will impose a 5 per cent tariff on all goods coming from Mexico, starting on June 10, until illegal immigration across the southern border is stopped, with the levies increasing by 5 per cent every month until reaching 25 per cent in October, all this action due to the Mexican Government failure to crack down on migrants deluge.

“The Tariff will gradually increase until the Illegal Immigration problem is remedied, at which time the Tariffs will be removed,” Mr. Trump said on Twitter.

“Tariffs will permanently remain at the 25 per cent level unless and until Mexico substantially stops the illegal inflow of aliens coming through its territory,” the statement read.

“Mexico’s passive cooperation in allowing this mass incursion constitutes an emergency and extraordinary threat to the national security and economy of the United States,” Mr. Trump said in the statement.

“Mexico has very strong immigration laws and could easily halt the illegal flow of migrants, including by returning them to their home countries.”
