Tel Aviv was founded on April 11, 1909, when dozens of families gathered on the sand dunes outside Yafo (present-day Jaffa) to allocate land plots to a new neighborhood called Ahuzat Bayit, later known as Tel Aviv. As the families could not decide how to allocate the land, a lottery was organized to ensure a fair division of land. Akiva Arieh Weiss, president of the lottery committee and one of the leading figures in the city’s founding, collected 66 grey shells and 66 other white shells. On the former he wrote the names of the participants and plot numbers on the latter; as all white shells were paired with grey shells, each family was assigned a lot and so the first modern Jewish city began to develop. His name, from that moment on, remained linked to the “hill of spring”, that place which in the Book of Ezekiel represents the house of the Jews in exile.

The Colonial Pipeline underwent devastating setbacks after being the focus of a recent cyberattack, being a critical part of the US petroleum infrastructure as it transports nearly half of the US East Coat’s fuel supply,  hence the company announced the restart of the pipeline, noting that operations would resume at approximately 5. p.m. local time following several days in which business was halted.

Although operations would be kicked back up again, the company also warned that it would take “several days” for the system to be fully operational:

“Following this restart it will take several days for the product delivery supply chain to return to normal,” Colonial said in a statement.

“Some markets served by Colonial Pipeline may experience, or continue to experience, intermittent service interruptions during the start-up period.”

Some 200 US citizens are due to be quarantined in California after arriving from Wuhan, China amid the corona-virus outreak with

the passengers, mostly diplomats, were evacuated via a chartered flight that landed on US soil on Wednesday.

They will be quarantined for at least 72 hours, but could be kept isolated for up to two weeks if they have any symptoms, officials said., with US DOD to provide facilities and other help should more arrivals need attention.

In a desperate attempt to limit the rate of infections from the raging Chinese epidemic, Lufthansa’s decided to follows similar moves by American Airlines, British Airways, and several Asian carriers to cancel flights to the virus originated China, even though cases have since been recorded in several other countries.

The number of deaths from a corona-virus outbreak rose to 132, as the disease has infected around 6,000 people so far, most of them in the central Chinese province of Hubei. Dozens of cases have also been reported in more than 10 other countries, including Germany.

Lufthansa’s decision also affects flights run by its subsidiaries Swiss and Austrian Airlines.
