After abruptly breaking off peace talks with the Taliban, and cancelling a secret meeting with Afghan leaders at the Camp David presidential retreat after a particularly deadly spate of violence, culminated by a bombing in Kabul that killed 12 people, including an American soldier, President Trump re-ignited hope of netted solution to the impasse, implying that talks may start soon. 

He said the Taliban has shown interest in a ceasefire during ongoing peace talks, after arriving at Bagram Air Field, and spending three-and-a-half hours on the ground, serving turkey, thanking the troops and sitting down with Afghan President Ashraf Ghani before leaving just after midnight.

President Trump ran his 2016 campaign on a promise to end the US’s “endless wars”, and made his announcement in a surprise Thanksgiving visit to Afghanistan, his first trip to the site of America’s longest war.
