US President Joe Biden message of the US airstrikes that were delivered to Iran was very clear:

“You can’t act with impunity. Be careful,” with his statement coming after the Pentagon confirmed that the US had carried out airstrikes in Syria on Biden’s order, targeting what it believed were “Iranian-backed militia”, designed by the US Defense Department, the American missile strike being a “proportionate military response” to attacks against its military assets in Iraq that occurred earlier in February.

Iran on Friday denounced the US airstrikes as “aggression” and “violation of international law”, insisting that the US presence in Syria is illegal. The attack was also condemned by Syrian authorities as a “cowardly aggression” that will “lead to consequences that will escalate the situation in the region.”

The US airstrikes reportedly “partially destroyed” two buildings and completely destroyed nine. The facilities were used, according to Washington, by Shia militia group Kata’ib Hezbollah and other formations that are believed to be behind the attacks against American military assets in Iraq.

In his first international interview, US new Secretary of State Mr. Blinken stressed the importance of worldwide vaccination against Covid-19, by criticizing China for its lack of transparency in uncovering how coronavirus emerged, the first break with the “America First” policy of President Trump:

The US has now vaccinated more than 27 million of its own people, but in many poorer countries, vaccination has yet to begin, hence while speaking as the leaders of the G7 richest industrialized nations met in virtual session, he announced that the US is giving $4bn to the Covax vaccination scheme, which aims to deliver more than two billion doses to people in 190 countries in less than a year.

The Taiwanese Defense Ministry reported that four Chinese J-16s, and four JH-7s and an electronic warfare aircraft were seen flying in the South China Sea near the Taiwan-controlled Pratas Islands, forcing his country to engage the approaching air force in response, by issuing “radio warnings” and deploying their air defense missile systems to “monitor the activity”. 

This comes as tensions worsen between the global superpower and the 25 million-strong island nation, as president Tsai Ing-wen has also made a move to boost Taiwan’s defense capabilities, including an improved weapons-design ability, as well as launching an advanced, missile-laden warship and commissioning a new mine-layer.

Coronavirus cases are rising rapidly in the German border town of Flensburg, with half linked to the British mutation, raising concern that tighter restrictions are imminent, and it is spreading through town at high speed.

At the St. Francis Hospital, a spokesman said that he is seeing more and more middle-aged patients, with no underlying conditions, who are fighting for their lives after a COVID-19 infection:

“We are concerned that this will result in a third wave that will soon overwhelm us as St. Francis Hospital,” he said.

“Our capacity is limited, and we won’t be able to keep up with it,” expressing his concern that in three to four weeks, the city could be fully overrun by the new wave.

Germany announced entry restrictions for travelers from Britain, Ireland, Brazil, Portugal and South Africa, as concerns of more contagious coronavirus variants are rising, the government saying that in addition to current testing and quarantine restrictions, “a temporary limitation shall be imposed on carriage of travelers from countries designated as regions with variants,” as a transportation ban will go into effect for all flights, trains, buses and ships from countries where the new variants have spread.

Visitors from countries deemed high risk due to mutations of the coronavirus — such as the UK, Brazil, Portugal and South Africa — will now face entry restrictions to Germany, but not transporting goods, as well as urgent medical transports and travel due to “urgent humanitarian reasons.”

Earlier this week, Interior Minister Horst Seehofer said that the plan will include completely halting flights into the country.
