President Trump has lifted sanctions on Turkey, after Russia has threatened Kurdish forces could be ‘crushed’, and Iraq will refuse to allow US troops leaving Syria to remain.

During a special address at the White House, Mr. Trump said that the sanctions would be lifted unless “something happens that we are not happy with”, also casting skepticism about the meaning of “permanent” in “that part of the world”.

Mr. Trump’s comments came after Russian military police began patrols on part of the Syrian border, with the Kremlin telling YPG Kurdish forces to pull back from the entire frontier or else face being “steamrolled” by Turkish forces.

A permanent ceasefire has been achieved in northern Syria, President Trump has said, prompting Washington to lift recent sanctions it had imposed on Turkish imports in response to the violence.

Russia’s warning came a day after it struck an accord with Turkey calling for the complete pullout of the YPG fighters, who were once US allies but who Ankara calls terrorists.

“This was an outcome created by us, the United States and nobody else,” Mr. Trump said.

EU investigators are probing the route a Bulgarian lorry took before ending up in Grays, Essex with 39 dead bodies inside, as the driver, a 25-year-old man from Northern Ireland, has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

Essex Police initially said the truck had entered the UK on Saturday, 19 October, via the port of Holyhead in north Wales, suggesting it had entered by ferry from the Republic of Ireland, under European Union rules heavy goods vehicles are allowed to travel freely between any of the 28 members states.

Bulgaria’s Foreign Ministry says “the Scania truck was registered in the city of Varna under the name of a company owned by an Irish citizen” after Essex Police discovered the bodies of 39 people in a lorry container at Waterglade Industrial Park in Thurrock. In the event of a no deal Brexit, lorries from the EU will probably be subject to border checks.

Two Tyler, Texas women were indicted on money laundering charges, following an investigation by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), with assistance from the US Postal Inspection Service, the Sherman Police Department, and the Appleton (Wisconsin) Police Department.

According to the indictment, Hannan and Jennings are alleged to have laundered funds received from romance scam victims and from victims of other fraudulent schemes on behalf of their co-conspirators, who were based outside of the United States.

Pamela Sue Hannan, 66, of Sherman, Texas, and Pamela Sue Jennings, 68, of Houston, Texas, were indicted by a federal grand jury Oct16   Both defendants were charged with conspiracy to commit money laundering.

  In order to facilitate this scheme, Hannan and Jennings opened bank accounts in the names of businesses which purported to provide legitimate services.

 The majority of the funds they received were subsequently transferred overseas to their co-conspirators.

ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) officers arrested 271 aliens as part of an enforcement action targeting immigration violators and those who pose a threat to public safety, with 99 illegals having criminal records that included felony convictions for serious or violent offenses, such as 1st degree murder, attempted murder, vehicular manslaughter, rape, aggravated assault, attempted robbery, battery, burglary, child neglect, cruelty toward a child, domestic violence, drugs charges such as possession and trafficking, weapons offenses, abuse of the elderly. Additional convictions included driving under the influence, fraud, harboring aliens, illegal entry and re-entry to the United States, resisting an officer, traffic offenses, trespassing and workman’s compensation fraud. As part of the action, ERO officers apprehended 49 ICE fugitives and 39 individuals who were previously removed from the U.S., as well as two known gang members and one individual with an Interpol Red Notice.

Howard made numerous telephone calls to the Islamic Society of Augusta, during which he threatened to “kill,” “bomb,” “shoot,” “behead,” “slaughter,” “execute,” “light on fire,” and “murder” members of the mosque, to “hunt down” and “zone in” on Muslims, and to “blow up the mosque.” At the hearing, Howard admitted committing these acts and obstructing or attempting to obstruct the mosque members’ free exercise of their religious beliefs. Howard remains in federal custody pending his sentencing hearing, which has not yet been scheduled.

“All people, regardless of where they worship or which religion they belong to, are entitled to live free from the threat of violence and discrimination,” said Acting Assistant Attorney General John Gore of the Civil Rights Division. “Howard’s threatening and hateful calls were criminal and unlawful. The Department of Justice will continue to hold anyone who commits hate crimes accountable under the law.”

The Coast Guard will hold a decommissioning ceremony Thursday, March 22, at Coast Guard Base Honolulu for the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Sherman (WHEC 720), the Coast Guard’s ninth High Endurance Cutter, launched on Sept. 3, 1968, and was the sixth of 12 Hamilton-class ships built by Avondale Shipyards in New Orleans.

 
Sherman’s operational resume includes action in the Vietnam War, major drug interdictions, numerous high seas rescue, and it is one of only two Coast Guard Cutters to hold the Vietnam Service Award and the only Coast Guard Cutter to hold the Combat Action Ribbon for action in the Vietnam War. Sherman is the last remaining active U.S. warship in the Coast Guard or Navy to have sunk an enemy vessel in combat.
