Delowar Mohammed Hossain was arrested at John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK Airport) in Queens, New York, and charged in a criminal Complaint today with attempting to provide material support for acts of terrorism, specifically in support of killing U.S. nationals located overseas.  He was presented today before Magistrate Judge Stewart D. Aaron in Manhattan federal court.

“As alleged, Hossain planned to travel overseas and join the Taliban in order to kill American soldiers,” said Assistant Attorney General Demers.  “The threat of terrorism at home and abroad remains, and the National Security Division is committed to preventing individuals from carrying out deadly plans such as this.  I want to thank the agents, analysts, and prosecutors who are responsible for this case.”

“As alleged, Delowar Hossain plotted to travel to Afghanistan to join the Taliban, specifically so he could commit acts of terrorism,” said U.S. Attorney Berman.  “Hossain wanted to kill Americans, and particularly wanted to target members of our armed forces, serving our nation overseas.  The excellent work of the FBI and NYPD stopped Hossain’s alleged deadly plan to join the Taliban before he took flight, and he now faces federal terrorism charges.”

Police in Hong Kong fired tear gas and rubber bullets at protesters defying official warnings not to march in a neighborhood, where six days earlier a triads gangsters mob brutally beat people in a train station,  as protesters streamed through Yuen Long, even though police refused to grant permission for the march, and three hours after the march started, police fired tear gas to disperse the crowd.

Protesters chanted “Hong Kong police know the law and break the law” in a show of defiance against the white-clad assailants who beat dozens of people last Sunday night, including some demonstrators heading home after the latest mass protest in the summer-long pro-democracy movement.

A symbol going back to the Occupy Central protests that shook Hong Kong in 2014, umbrellas have become tools to help protesters conceal their identities from police cameras as well as shields against tear gas and pepper spray.

A rabbi told reporters about the synagogue shooting near San Diego on Saturday, in which one woman died and three people were wounded, as he held up his hands to shield himself just to have his fingers “get blown away”, with the 19-year-old shooter identified as John Earnest arrested shortly afterwards in Poway, north of the Californian city.

Rabbi Goldstein was walking into the banquet hall at the synagogue when he heard a noise, what he thought initially was a table falling over or a congregation member collapsing

“As soon as he saw me, he started to shoot toward me and that is when I put my hands up,” Rabbi Goldstein said on NBC’s Sunday Today program.

The attack came exactly six months after a shooting in Pittsburgh in which 11 people were killed, thought to be the worst anti-Semitic attack in recent US history.

According to Orthodox tradition, the “Holy Fire” is a miracle that occurs every year at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem on Holy Saturday, the day preceding Orthodox Easter, and the “Holy Fire” was delivered to Moscow from Jerusalem on an aircraft that has recently landed in Vnukovo International Airport, and taken to the Cathedral of Christ the Savior, where the head of the Russian Orthodox Church, Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, leads the festive Easter service.

The service is attended by Russian President Vladimir Putin as well as Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev and Mayor of Moscow Sergei Sobyanin. Putin visited all Easter services at the Cathedral of Christ the Savior while being the president of Russia, except in 2003 when he had an official visit to Tajikistan.
