A British naval officer repeatedly called on Iran to guarantee the tanker’s free passage, Iranian forces told the ship’s crew to abruptly change course to “be safe”.

Britain and its EU Muslim states allies have cautioned “brotherly” Tehran from further escalating tensions and the audio, released by maritime security risk firm Dryad Global, shows how the British navy was unable to prevent the ship and its crew of 23 being seized by Iranian Revolutionary Guard forces on Friday.

Chinese President Mr.Xi Hong Kong troubles escalated when riot police fired tear gas and rubber bullets at protesters in Hong Kong following a large pro-democracy rally in the city, and charged demonstrators who threw objects at police lines, as the clashes came after marchers ignored a designated finish line, continuing on to China’s central government offices and throwing eggs at the building.

Organisers of Sunday’s protest say more than 430,000 people took part but police put the figure at 138,000, with mass protests have been held for weeks, initially over an extradition deal with mainland China but now covering other issues on democracy in Hong Kong.

Large contingent of riot police equipped with masks and shields were seen swarming towards protesters close to a ferry terminal on the main island, with some protesters also covered the CCTV cameras outside a police station with spray paint, after a number of pro-democracy protesters were attacked by masked men inside a metro station.

The news that US is sending troops to Saudi Arabia cranked up concerns that it is preparing for a war with Iran, in its first deployment of American forces in the kingdom since the US toppling of Saddam Hussein’s Iraqi regime, as statements from Riyadh and the US Central Command (CENTCOM) have confirmed the deployment of US forces in Saudi Arabia amid a looming threat of war with Iran:

“Based on mutual cooperation between Saudi Arabia and the United States of America, and their desire to enhance everything that could preserve the security of the region and its stability … King Salman gave his approval to host American forces,” the Saudi defense ministry announced.

CENTCOM said the deployment “provides an additional deterrent, and ensures our ability to defend our forces and interests in the region from emergent, credible threats.”

Riyadh and Washington have not revealed the number of troops that will be deployed in the kingdom, but some US media reports claim at least 500 American soldiers will be located at the Prince Sultan military air base, south of Riyadh. (DW)

“Homeland Security Investigations is committed to public safety, which includes protecting the children and youth of our communities who are most vulnerable to online predators”, ICE said following the  conviction of David John Telles, 43, of Pleasanton, California,  of all counts in the indictment against him: online enticement of a minor; travel with intent to engage in illicit sexual conduct in a foreign place; and engaging in illicit sexual conduct in a foreign place.

The defendant spent weeks using an online game, a social media application, and his cellular telephone to groom the 14-year-old victim, who lived in England – telling her that she was his girlfriend and that he wanted to marry her.

Telles then traveled to England in June 2014 with the intent to sexually abuse the victim. After arriving in England, Telles took the victim to two different hotels, where he sexually abused her over the course of two days.

Police officers from the Devon and Cornwall Constabulary in England caught Telles and rescued the child.

A military drone has been shot down by an Iranian surface-to-air missile, the US military’s Central Command has confirmed, as the Iran’s elite Revolutionary Guards claimed to have shot it down when entered Iranian airspace, amid heightened tensions between Tehran and Washington.

“The drone took off from a US base in the southern Persian Gulf … it had turned off all its identifying equipment in violation of aviation rules and was moving in full secrecy,”a statement from the Revolutionary Guard was quoted as saying on the state broadcaster IRIB.

Iranian State news agency IRNA identified the drone as an RQ-4 Global Hawk, which is generally used for unmanned surveillance missions.

“No US aircraft were operating in Iranian airspace today,” Navy Captain Bill Urban said.

A slew  of death threats and attacks against pro-immigrant politicians has the authorities in the Islamic Merkeldom of Germany worried, just weeks after politician Walter Lübcke was killed in a “right-wing extremist” attack.

The outrage rose to a new level as two mayors had been sent threatening emails, including Cologne Mayor Henriette Reker received a death threat that they believe was sent by someone active in the right-wing extremist scene.

Reker was previously the victim of a violent attack, suffering life-threatening injuries in 2015 when a right-wing sympathizer stabbed her with a hunting knife while she was campaigning. The attacker said he targeted Reker because of her pro-refugee stance.

While the order prevents the Defence Department from providing $1 billion in funds for the project and questions the use of another $1.5 billion, it does not prevent the authorities from seeking funding from other sources.

Midshipmen toss their covers in the air during the United States Naval Academy’s Class of 2019 Graduation Day and Commissioning Ceremony.

The hat toss, now a traditional ending to the ceremony, originated at the Naval Academy in 1912 as a symbolic and visual end to the four-year program.

The Class of 2019 graduated 1052 midshipmen and were addressed by acting Secretary of Defense Patrick M. Shanahan. As the undergraduate college of our country’s naval service, the Naval Academy prepares young men and women to become professional officers of competence, character, and compassion in the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps.
