A Sydney resident and his dog were brought to safety by rescuers on Sunday, as officials have warned of “life-threatening flash floods”, with waters not expected to subside until Thursday, and seven emergency shelters opened across the state as Premier Gladys Berejiklian said parts of the Mid-North Coast were experiencing a “one in 100-year event”. Warragamba Dam, Sydney’s main water source, has been overflowing for the first time in years.

On Sunday, the Philippine defense chief demanded that more than 200 Chinese vessels he said were manned by militias leave a South China Sea reef claimed by both Manila and Beijing, warning that the Philippines would uphold its sovereign rights, after Foreign Secretary Teodoro Locsin later tweeted that Manila had filed a diplomatic protest over the Chinese presence.

Chinese Embassy officials did not immediately issue any comment, and Chinese fishing fleets have long been suspected of being utilized as maritime militias to help assert Beijing’s territorial claims, although China has played down those claims.

Benjamin Netanyahu has claimed a “huge win” after initial exit polls put his Likud party in the lead, but observers allege that he is likely to fall short of a majority, setting the stage for yet another deadlock, as the polls closed in Israel for the country’s fourth election in two years on Tuesday, the political future of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu remained unclear.

Voting locations closed at 10 p.m. local time (2000 GMT). Exit polls released by Israeli broadcasters projected Netanyahu’s right-wing Likud party would take between 31 and 33 seats in the Knesset with rival Lapid Yesh Atid winning 16 to 18 seats.

If the final results are in line with the exit polls, both sides would likely have to court Naftali Bennett, a former Netanyahu ally who now has strained relations with the prime minister. Forecasters suggest Netanyahu could have a tough time building a coalition government.

With 61 seats needed for an outright majority in the 120-seat parliament, it could be several days before an outcome is known and a potential fifth consecutive election cannot be ruled out.

A Bronx man named Richard Laugel was arrested after a city-wide manhunt and now charged with firearms and narcotics offenses.

And from what was found during this investigation, he appears to be a threat to public safety and someone we don’t want on the streets,” said Angel M. Melendez, special agent in charge of HSI New York. “This collaboration brought together by HSI’s Border Enforcement Security Taskforce, is paramount to finding the criminals who bring in goods from abroad to support their criminal activity in our local communities.”

“As alleged, Richard Laugel had accumulated an arsenal of dangerous weapons in his Bronx apartment, including a grenade launcher and an assault rifle. Thankfully, the local and federal law enforcement officers were able to arrest Laugel without incident, and his trove of dangerous weapons has been seized,” said the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, Geoffrey S. Berman.

An enormous dredging ship named “Tian Kun Hao”, that can suck up to “212,000 cubic feet of sediment from the ocean floor every hour, and apparently it has, the power horse that created and expanded islands and reefs in the South China Sea, one in particular known as the Subi Reef housing 400 buildings, including an airstrip, hangars, parade grounds, radar equipment and sports facilities.

Being an artificial island, that is only naturally above the waterline at low tide, the dredger has built up Subi Reef high enough to allow the Chinese government to install anti-ship and anti-air missiles, cruise missiles, submarine detection equipment, and mile-long landing strip where large military transport aircraft have also been spotted recently.

Roughly $2.8 trillion in trade transits the South China Sea waterway every year, the Diplomat reported, citing the Center for Strategic and International Studies’ China Power project.
