Eight members of the Bonanno Family were indicted on charges of racketeering and other offenses in connection with the activities of the organized crime families of La Cosa Nostra: Acting Boss Joseph Cammarano, Jr., Consigliere John Zancocchio, Joseph Sabella, George Tropiano, Albert Armetta, Domenick Miniero, Joseph Santapaolo, and Simone Esposito, all with conspiracy involving a wide range of crimes, including extortion, loansharking, wire and mail fraud, narcotics distribution, and conspiracy to commit murder.

 Several Genovese and Luchese family members were also indicted with conspiracy to commit extortion, assault resulting in serious bodily injury in aid of racketeering, and aiding and abetting the same.

“The members of this criminal organization have pending charges from drug dealing and fraud to loansharking and conspiracy to commit murder,” said Angel M. Melendez, special agent in charge of HSI New York. “HSI will continue to work with our law enforcement partners to investigate and dismantle criminal organization like La Cosa Nostra and the Bonanno family.”

Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) released a report, pursuant Section 11 of President Trump’s Executive Order 13780, revealing that three out of every four, or 402, individuals convicted of international terrorism-related charges in U.S. federal courts between September 11, 2001, and December 31, 2016 were foreign-born. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement removed approximately 1,716 aliens with national security concerns, and in 2017 alone DHS had 2,554 encounters with individuals on the terrorist watch list (also known as the FBI’s Terrorist Screening Database) traveling to the United States.

“My top priority as Secretary of Homeland Security is to ensure the safety and security of the American people,” said Secretary Nielsen. “This report is a clear reminder of why we cannot continue to rely on immigration policy based on pre-9/11 thinking that leaves us woefully vulnerable to foreign-born terrorists, and why we must examine our visa laws and continue to intensify screening and vetting of individuals traveling to the United States to prevent terrorists, criminals, and other dangerous individuals from reaching our country. Without legislative change, DHS will continue to see thousands of terrorists a year attempt to enter the United States, and while we must be right every time, the terrorists only need to be lucky once. Therefore, DHS has personnel deployed around the world and along our borders working with our global and domestic law enforcement partners to stop terrorists before they enter the homeland.”

Yesterday Hawaii created a panic when an irresponsible person pressed a wrong button on a missile defense computer, sending hundreds of thousands citizens running for their lives.

Not very far away, some dummy in Japan public TV sent a false North Korean missile alert that took the public broadcaster 10 minutes to correct the error. 

The false warning stating that “North Korea appears to have launched a missile” was issued on its website and mobile app, and was also shared on Twitter.

The error was corrected about 38 minutes later, but not before sending panicked residents running for cover, and as in Hawaii no one was fired or punished.

“Operating a submerged submarine close to another country’s territory goes against the norms of international rules. We are seriously concerned over acts that unilaterally raise tensions,[and] we will keep our guard up and respond swiftly if a similar incident happens,” Japanese Defense Minister Itsunori Onodera said in a press conference in Tokyo as a Chinese “Shang-class” attack submarine was detected operating in the so-called contiguous zone around the Japanese-controlled Senkaku Islands.

Destroyers of Japan’s Maritime Self-Defense Forces located the enemy vessel and it confirmed its identity after surfacing and running a Chinese flag up its mast.

“At a time when there is so much tension on the Korean Peninsula and the international community needs to be focusing on dealing with that situation in order to isolate the regime of Kim Jong Un, we see that not only is China not doing enough on North Korea but is also making these very provocative moves against Japanese territory,” a Japanese official told DW.
