An outstanding researcher named Bing Liu, a 37-year-old assistant professor at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, who “was on the verge of making very significant findings” towards understanding the cellular mechanisms of Covid-19 infection, was found dead in his house with multiple gunshot wounds to the head, neck, torso and extremities at his suburban home, and since colleagues said he was close to making “monumental discoveries” on his studies of Covid-19, social media talking heads sparked online speculation it was an assassination.
The gunman was identified as 46-year-old software engineer Hao Gu, who took his own life after returning to his car, and the investigation has determined it was a murder-suicide resulting from “a lengthy dispute regarding an intimate partner”, authorities saying there was “zero evidence” the case was linked to Liu’s research work and the current public health crisis.

“A very unusual case. There are likely secrets hidden in the dark,” one remark read, with some have speculated on unfounded claims that the Chinese government may have played a role in the case.

Over 3 million Americans sought unemployment benefits last week as the economic toll from the COVOD-19 pandemic continued to mount, with the new applications exploding the total number of jobless claims since mid-March to 33.3 million- or about 20% of the US workforce, and the number of people collecting benefits has continued to rise, despite recent moves to start re-opening in some parts of the country.
“The significant rise in continuing claims … is a little disappointing since it suggests few people are being recalled to work,” said Dr. Paul Ashworth, chief US economist at Capital Economics.
Many companies like Uber, Lyft and Airbnb are among the firms that have announced cuts in recent weeks, as shutdowns halted significant amounts of travel, and the impact has been felt across the economy, affecting medical practices, restaurants and administrative workers among many others.

The new research shows the two active ingredients also help to protect against snake venom, as demonstrated by biochemist and molecular biologist Dr. Laura Oana-Albulescu from the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM), when her team realized that Dimercaprol and DPMS work against enzymes in snake venom that rely on zinc ions to exert their devastating effects, by binding the zinc ions, with the significant results published their results in the journal Science Translational Medicine on May 6, 2020.
About 138,000 people die each year worldwide from snakebites, according to the LSTM, and 400,000 people suffer irreparable damage to their health.
