SAN ANTONIO – U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) announced the results of a five-day targeted enforcement operation that resulted in the apprehension of more than 30 at-large aliens in the south Texas area of responsibility. ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) officers conducted the targeted enforcement actions Oct. 19 through Oct. 23, focusing on aliens subject to removal who pose a threat to public safety.
“Each arrest protects the victims involved in crimes committed by criminal aliens and prevents future ones. Criminal aliens who are illegally present in the U.S. and threaten public safety will be apprehended and removed,” said Jose Correa, field office director for ICE ERO San Antonio.
“Targeted enforcement operations continue everyday as part of our efforts to protect our communities from cross-border crime and illegal immigration.”
Among those ICE arrested during the enforcement actions were:
a 29-year-old, aggravated felon and citizen of Honduras with multiple convictions for burglary, driving while intoxicated (DWI) and DWI with a child in the vehicle. Additionally, he was convicted and sentenced to 18 months incarceration by the U.S. District Court of the Western District of Texas for illegal reentry into the United States. He was arrested and remains in ICE ERO custody pending removal
a 38-year-old, aggravated felon and citizen of Honduras with a conviction of possession with intent to distribute a schedule 2 narcotic in August 2008. He was sentenced to two years and six months incarceration. He was arrested and remains in ICE ERO custody pending removal.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – A Southeast Texas man who wanted to marry his minor victim was sentenced in the Southern District of Texas to 50 years in federal prison for producing child pornography.
This investigation was conducted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) in Corpus Christi, Texas, and the Corpus Christi Police Department Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.
Stephen Scott Meals, 39, a resident of Corpus Christi, pleaded guilty to the charges on Feb. 20. He was further ordered to register as a sex offender and to serve the rest of his life on supervised release following completion of his prison term, during which time he will have to comply with numerous requirements designed to restrict his access to children and the internet.
At the hearing, the court heard how Meals groomed his victim over many years, gaining her trust and the trust of her family. He then initiated a sexual relationship with her while her family was displaced during Hurricane Harvey in 2017.

Ollie Rose III, 61, of Pleasant Hill, North Carolina, was charged with one count of conspiring to use a facility in interstate commerce in furtherance of unlawful activity, five counts of extortion under color of official right, one count of attempted possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance, and four counts of possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance. He made his initial appearance today before U.S. Magistrate Judge Kimberly A. Swank.
According to the indictment, Rose, a case manager at Caledonia Correctional Institution, used his position as a public official to smuggle contraband, including marijuana, tobacco, and synthetic cannabinoids, into the prison for inmates. The indictment alleges that in exchange for smuggling illegal drugs and other contraband, Rose received payments ranging from $500 to $1,200 in cash or via a mobile application. Rose is alleged to have engaged in the smuggling scheme from at least November 2018 through October 2020.

The defendant was sentenced to 300 months followed by five years of supervised release, being the last member of 25 individuals sentenced for their roles in a heroin and methamphetamine trafficking ring that operated in Benton and Washington Counties in Arkansas, and in California, Oklahoma, Missouri, Arizona, and Mexico. The joint HSI Fayetteville and Drug Enforcement Administration Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF) investigation of this operation began in mid-2018.
“Those who deal in narcotics trafficking posed a deadly threat, bringing in dangerous and addictive drugs and related criminal activity to our communities. This lengthy sentence reflects the seriousness of the crimes and the lack of tolerance for the endangerment to our citizens,” said HSI New Orleans acting Special Agent in Charge Gilbert Trill.

“The World Bank’s Board of Executive Directors today approved an envelope of $12 billion for developing countries to finance the purchase and distribution of COVID-19 vaccines, tests, and treatments for their citizens”, the news release said by the world’s money authority, a move intended to provide support the vaccination of up to a billion people. In addition from purchasing COVID-19 vaccines, the program includes technical support, namely supply chain and logistics management to provide their effective deployment and expand the distribution capacity.
The World Bank earlier reported that the coronavirus pandemic may put more than 150 million people around the globe into extreme poverty and drive up child mortality rates in developing countries by slightly less than a half of the current rate.
