Shelley M Richmond Joseph, 51, of Natick, who was appointed as a Massachusetts District Court Judge in November 2017, and Wesley MacGregor, 56, of Watertown, a former Trial Court Officer since 1993, were indicted on one count of conspiracy to obstruct justice and two counts of obstruction of justice – aiding and abetting.

Prior to the afternoon session, the courtroom clerk – at Joseph’s direction – allegedly instructed the ICE officer to leave the courtroom and wait outside in the lobby, stating that in the event that the defendant was released, it would be through the courtroom and into the lobby.

MacGregor was also charged with perjury for falsely testifying before a federal grand jury on July 12, 2018, that, prior to releasing the defendant from the sally-port exit, he was unaware that ICE agents were in the Courthouse and that there was a detainer for the defendant.

The charges of conspiracy to obstruct justice and obstruction of a federal proceeding – aiding and abetting provide for sentences of no greater than 20 and five years in prison, respectively; five and three years of supervised release, respectively; and a fine of $250,000.

Two owners of an Arizona business were charged in an indictment unsealed today for overseeing a scheme to forge hundreds of thousands of counterfeit documents containing improperly obtained personal information, primarily relating to senior citizens, which they allegedly sold to their clients, who then allegedly provided this information to telemarketers.

The indictment further alleges that Pavone and DiPrima directed a team of employees and associates to write the personal information of the victims onto the counterfeit sweepstakes forms, even though the victims had not agreed to this use, and even though many of the victims had never responded to a sweepstakes mailing.

DiPrima, 49, of Penfield, New York, were charged in an indictment filed on April 23, 2019 in the District of Arizona with one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud, one count of wire fraud, one count of conspiracy to commit identity theft, seven counts of identity theft, and seven counts of aggravated identity theft.

The indictment alleges that beginning in approximately 2013, Pavone and DiPrima acquired lists of names and contact information for thousands of people—primarily senior citizens—and used this information to create fake sweepstakes leads, which they then sold to their clients as authentic.

A former US Border Patrol Agent Robert Hall, 45, of La Feria, Texas, was sentenced to 114 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release for accepting bribes in return for helping to smuggle illegal drugs into the United States.

In total, Hall accepted over $50,000 in cash from the DTO in exchange for using his position as a BPA to enable the DTO’s drug shipments to cross the border into Texas without law enforcement detection.

In exchange for cash payments, he provided an individual in the DTO with CBP sensor locations, the locations of unpatrolled roads at or near the US-Mexico border, the number of BPAs working in a certain area, keys to unlock CBP locks located on gates to ranch fences along the border and CBP radios

According to the plea documents, between 2004 and 2014, Hall, working with others including Daniel Hernandez, 46, of Roseville, California, facilitated the trafficking of illegal drugs, including marijuana, into the United States from Mexico on behalf of a drug trafficking organization

Hall, a former BPA, was sentenced by US District Judge Ewing Werlein Jr of the Southern District of Texas, who also ordered Hall to pay a fine in the amount of $20,000, after pleading guilty to one count of bribery on Sept 14, 2018, which was unsealed today.

Philippines-based conspirators and crooks operating a fraudulent scheme to import Native American-style jewelry and sell it to retail stores and individuals across the southwest United States as authentic jewelry made by Native Americans, where slammed by a federal grand jury in Phoenix, Arizona 38-count indictment for perpetrating an international fraud and money laundering scheme in violation of federal laws, including the Indian Arts and Crafts Act (IACA).

The conspirators allegedly took several measures to ensure that the jewelry resembled authentic Native American-made jewelry, including copying jewelry designs from genuine Native American artists, using traditional Native American motifs and symbols in the jewelry, and stamping the jewelry with the initials of alleged Native American artists.

The defendants and their co-conspirators used various jewelry businesses, including Last Chance Jewelers and LMN Jewelers—to design and manufacture jewelry in the Native-American style at factories in the Philippines where Filipino jewelry-makers made all of the jewelry.

From there, it was allegedly advertised and sold to the general public as authentic jewelry made by Native Americans, at jewelry and crafts stores that purported to specialize in Native American pieces.

Article IV, section 3 of the US Constitution allows for new states to be admitted into the union, though no new state can be formed within an old state without the consent of the state legislature as well as a consent by the people.

“Generally speaking, it’s very uncommon for a state to willingly vote to make itself smaller. (The last time that happened was in 1862 when West Virginia broke off from Virginia, and that involved some creative wartime interpretations of the Constitution.) And the U.S. Congress seems no more likely to vote for such statehood,” according to the Pacific Standard Magazine explained online post in November 2013.

Two men named Robert Paul Preston and Tom Reed launched a campaign on Jan. 15 to create “New California”, the 51st state of the union by dividing rural California from the coastal cities, citing a list of 40 violations of the law against the state’s government.

It states that a consensus must be reached by the state legislatures of California as well as Congress. The process, according to New California hopefuls, could take up to 18 months.

An Uber self-driving car has hit and killed a woman named Elaine Herzberg, 49, who was walking her bicycle outside the pedestrian crossing on a four-lane road in Phoenix, Arizona, marking the first fatality caused by a fully autonomous vehicle and a potential blow to the technology expected to transform transportation.

The car was in autonomous mode with an operator behind the wheel and police were unsure whether it slowed down before the collision.

“This tragic accident underscores why we need to be exceptionally cautious when testing and deploying autonomous vehicle technologies on public roads,” Democratic Senator Edward Markey, a member of the transportation committee, said in a statement.

Self-driving cars being tested routinely get into fender-benders with other vehicles, when last week, a self-driving Uber crashed with another vehicle in Pittsburgh, local news reported. There were no injuries.

A multiple sclerosis medical procedures involving wiping out a patient’s immune system using cancer drugs and then rebooting it with a stem cell transplant did a wonder for patient Louise Willetts, 36, from Rotherham, who is now symptom-free and said: “It feels like a miracle.”

Just over 100 patients took part in the trial, in hospitals in Chicago, Sheffield, Uppsala in Sweden and Sao Paulo in Brazil.

The patients received either haematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) or drug treatment.

After one year, only one relapse occurred among the stem cell group compared with 39 in the drug group.

After an average follow-up of three years, the transplants had failed in three out of 52 patients (6%), compared with 30 of 50 (60%) in the control group.

“Drug traffickers kill so many thousands of our citizens every year,” Mr Trump said.

“That’s why my Department of Justice will be seeking so many tougher penalties than we’ve ever had and we’ll be focusing on the penalties that I talked about previously for big pushers, the ones that are killing so many people, and that penalty is going to be the death penalty.

“Other countries don’t play games … the ultimate penalty has to be the death penalty.”
