A military  transporter plane that was carrying more than 90 people, mostly troops, overshot the runway on Jolo island in the southern Philippines killing at least 45 people, with dozens more pulled alive from the burning wreckage.
The dead are mainly military personnel, but three civilians on the ground were also killed, according to the defense ministry.
Rescue workers scoured the wreckage of the Lockheed C130 Hercules in a wood near several buildings.
