Reuben Rankin, 34, was charged with one count of assault on a federal officer with a deadly weapon, one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm and one count of use of a firearm in relation to a crime of violence.

“The attempted shooting of HSI special agents is a stark reminder of the dangers associated with serving in law enforcement today,” said Vance Callender, HSI special agent in charge for Michigan and Ohio.

“We are grateful that no law enforcement officer was injured, and we stand by this very simple point – if you shoot at law enforcement investigating federal crimes, you can expect swift and severe charges in federal court.”

According to a criminal complaint filed in US District Court:

HSI special agents approached a house on Dove Avenue in Cleveland October 30 to execute a search warrant.

“This defendant is alleged to have shot at federal and local law enforcement during the execution of a search warrant,” US Attorney Justin Herdman said.

Steve Torres, 43, and Uriel Delgado, 37, both of Las Vegas, were sentenced Friday for selling large quantities of methamphetamine, US Attorney Nicholas A. Trutanich for the District of Nevada announced, after seventy-nine grams of methamphetamine were found during a later search of Torres’s vehicle and, during the arrest process, he admitted to possessing methamphetamine in his home and consented to its search.

According to court documents, between April and May 2018, Torres arranged and sold a total of 657 grams (approximately 1 ½ pounds) of methamphetamine to an undercover law enforcement officer.

“Criminals who continue to engage in drug trafficking with no regard for our nation’s laws will be brought to justice,” said Mr. Francisco Burrola, special agent in charge for HSI Nevada.

“HSI will continue to work closely with its federal, state, and local law enforcement partners to combat the serious public safety threat drugs pose to our communities.

A Texas woman identified as Chaka Castro, 44, of Houston, Texas, was sentenced to 37 years in prison for her role as the leader of several robbery crews that traveled across the United States in order to conduct armed home invasions of families of Indian and Asian descent.

After a five-week trial, Castro was convicted of one count of Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) conspiracy, four counts of assault with a dangerous weapon in aid of racketeering and four counts of use of a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence

  The leader of the robbery crews was Castro, who would generate lists of robbery targets in various states around the county, specifically families of Asian and Indian ancestry, and then assign crews to carry out the armed robberies of these families within their homes. At least one robber would then restrain the victims with duct tape and threats of violence, as another partner would ransack the home in search of cash, jewelry and electronics to steal.

According to evidence presented at trial, from 2011 to 2014, Castro and her robbery crews committed a string of home invasions in Georgia, New York, Ohio, Michigan and Texas.
