Due to public health and safety concerns related to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the commissioning will be a private event, and hence the ceremony will be live-streamed for those unable to attend. The following link will become active approximately five minutes prior to the event.  

Acting Secretary of the Navy Thomas W. Harker, will deliver the commissioning ceremony’s principal address. Ms. Kate Brandt, Google Sustainability Officer, is the ship’s sponsor, as the ceremony will be highlighted by a time-honored Navy tradition when Ms. Brandt gives the order to “man our ship and bring her to life!”

Cmdr. Francisco X. Garza, a native of Phoenix, Arizona, is the ship’s commanding officer and leads a crew of 70 officers and enlisted personnel. The 3,200-ton Oakland was built by Austal USA/General Dynamics in Mobile, Alabama. The ship is 421 feet in length, has a beam of 103 feet, and a navigational draft of 15 feet. The ship is powered by two gas turbine engines, two main propulsion diesel engines, and four waterjets to reach speeds up to 40-plus knots.

NEW YORK – A federal judge in New York sentenced a Dominican national, identified as Christopher Santos-Felix, 29, from the Bronx, to 45 months incarceration and three years of supervised release following his conviction for assault on a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) deportation officer.
On the morning of March 3, 2019, deportation officers from the ICE Enforcement Removal Operations (ERO) New York Field Office attempted to arrest the individual, and Court documents show that Santos-Felix was initially cooperative as the deportation officers attempted to take him into custody. Short time later, after the officers removed his handcuffs to allow him to put on an article of clothing, Santos-Felix pushed an officer before running into a bedroom. The fugitive operations team members followed him into the bedroom where he became assaultive and combative. During the commotion, Santos-Felix bit off the tip of the ring finger of one of the officers attempting to restrain him.
The deportation officer was treated at a local hospital for his injuries, and returned to full duty, several weeks later.

The number of people who have died worldwide in the Covid-19 pandemic has surpassed three million, the critical milestone coming the day after the head of the World Health Organization (WHO) warned the world was “approaching the highest rate of infection” so far, as India – experiencing a second wave – recorded more than 230,000 new cases on Saturday alone.
Almost 140 million cases have been recorded since the pandemic began.
WHO chief Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus warned that “cases and deaths are continuing to increase at worrying rates”.

Powerful aftershocks continue to rock Papua New Guinea after a magnitude-7.5 earthquake struck the country’s southern highlands, forcing ExxonMobile to shut its nearby gas conditioning plant due to fears of damage to the structure.

The quake hit in the early hours of this morning at a relatively shallow depth of 25 miles, with the epicenter was about 65 miles south-west of Mendi, the capital of Southern Highlands province, a town of more than 50,000 people.

China’s ruling Communist Party has proposed scrapping the ten-year term limit for the President, in a move almost certain to be written into the country’s constitution in March, a change that would allow President Xi Jinping to continue as head of state beyond 2023, and into “Communist Part Of Heaven” eternity.

Sydney academic Dr. Feng Chonygi says Mr. Xi has “much greater power than Vladimir Putin”, and certainly more than President Trump.


This would allow Mr.Xi to continue as both the head of state and Communist Party General Secretary beyond 2023, not forgetting his Chairmanship of the Central Military Commission, yet another title that does not have a term limit.

According to China’s state media, the Communist Party’s main leadership group — the Central Committee — proposed the amendment, along with writing Mr. Xi’s ideology into the country’s constitution. Can a Communist leader become a saint?

Deep in the South China Sea the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, USS Carl Vinson, is sailing right through the red lines of the proposed South China Sea new sovereignty and dreams for world domination.

“It shows resolve, and gives decision space to our leaders,” the ship’s commanding officer, Captain Doug Verissimo, said.
“When they put a carrier strike group somewhere it helps to show that the United States is interested.
“We don’t have a lot of these, so when you put one in a certain area it has some influence.
“Of course it also gives our diplomats time and space to negotiate and make decisions, ultimately to try and prevent any type of armed conflict.”

The Carl Vinson, the flagship of a strike group from the US Third Fleet is shielded by a screen of distant guided missile cruisers and destroyers that form a protective “iron dome” around the aircraft carrier.


China has built airstrips and ports on reefs and shoals throughout the sea in defiance of a ruling from an international tribunal in the Hague.

“We want to keep laws and norms in place that we don’t change the map along the way, to avoid frictions,” Captain Verissimo said.

The mayor of Oakland Libby Schaaf issued a warning that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) could be conducting a raid in the area as soon as Sunday, a warning which she “learned from multiple credible sources” and intended “not to panic our residents but to protect them.”

Ms. Schaaf claimed she felt it was her “duty and moral obligation as Mayor to give those families fair warning when that threat appears imminent” as the feds detained at least four people during the weekend.

She joined other law enforcement officials in Northern California who would not cooperate with ICE, and noted state law “prohibits business owners from assisting ICE agents in immigration enforcement and bars federal agents from accessing employee-only areas.”

“It is no surprise that the bully in chief is continuing to try to intimidate our most vulnerable residents,” Schaaf said at the time. “We’re very clear that our values are to protect all of our residents regardless of where we come from. We want to protect families, not tear them apart.”

An UFO object was first detected in the air above Northern California by radar stations in Oakland, moving “very fast at 37,000 feet,” then observed in broad daylight flying through the heavy traffic of the United States’ air corridors above the state of Oregon.


The object did not respond to radio calls, had no collision-avoidance transponders, clearly visible, and tracked by radar intermittently  moving at unusually high speeds.

 Was it the mysterious top secret US aircraft “Aurora” flying at MACH 5, dark and practically invisible to centimeter frequency radars?

“An individual, not part of the official delegation, attempted to prevent one of our protectees from entering a room. A US Secret Service agent quickly intervened and a short scuffle ensued. The individual complied with the agent’s directions and no further action was necessary,” a story of a confrontation that broke out between Chinese and US officials over the “nuclear football” — the briefcase containing US nuclear launch codes — during a visit to Beijing by US President Donald Trump last year, according to website Axios. 

Multiple sources confirmed an incident in which Chinese officials tried to block a military aide with the briefcase from following Mr Trump into the Great Hall of the People, despite the aide being required to stay close to the President at all times.
