Greenland ice sheet secrets critical to climate change research were discovered while scientists made a thrilling descent into the two intersecting holes in the bed of a now frozen-over ice river, anchored their lines by running a rope through them and dropped into the vertical cavern:

“These are big giant scary holes in the ice… Places that historically people have avoided. During the summer you have entire lakes that disappear down these things, sometimes overnight. Almost every river on the Greenland ice sheet disappears into these holes,” said one of the explorers as rise of global fears over the implications of a warming climate the Arctic is registering the fastest meltdown on record.

As more of Greenland’s surface is melting in the summer, with lakes forming at higher and colder elevations on the ice sheet, some 4 trillion short tones of mass were lost since 1992, triggered by huge icebergs breaking off into the sea.

PORTLAND – U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers removed an illegal alien to Mexico, who was previously convicted in 1996 of attempted murder in Oregon, as the District Court of Salem, Oregon, convicted Abel Rojas-Hernandez, aka Juan Carlos Gonzalez-Cordova, aka Juan Manuel Perez, 57, for attempted murder and sentenced him to 25 years confinement. Rojas-Hernandez also has previous convictions for theft and probation violations.

When an treasure trove  of 1,500 artworks hoarded by the son of a Nazi-era art dealer was discovered in 2012, an investigation began to find out how many were looted from Jewish owners, but only 14 were conclusively identified as looted, and now Germany has declared the last of those works has been returned to the owner’s heirs, such as “Das Klavierspiel” (Playing the Piano) by Carl Spitzweg was owned by music publisher Henri Hinrichsen, who was murdered at Auschwitz in 1942.

German Culture Minister Monika Grütters said the return of the work could not make up for the deep suffering, it could “make a contribution to historical justice and fulfil our moral responsibility”.
