On Feb. 28, 2019 approximately 3,200 lbs. of cocaine, with an estimated street value of $77,000,000, was seized at the Port of New York/Newark in a joint operation involving U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), US Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Joint Task Force East (JTF-E), the US Coast Guard (USCG), the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the New York Police Department (NYPD), and the New York State Police (NYSP).

An examination of a shipping container entering the United States revealed 60 packages containing a white powdery substance that field-tested positive for cocaine. This apprehension is the second largest cocaine seizure at the Port of New York/Newark, and the largest in nearly 25 years.

“Cocaine, New York’s nemesis of the 90s, is back-indicating traffickers push to build an emerging customer base of users mixing cocaine with fentanyl,” said DEA Special Agent in Charge Ray Donovan.

“This record-breaking seizure draws attention to this new threat and shows law enforcement’s collaborative efforts in seizing illicit drugs before it gets to the streets and into users’ hands”.

“Transnational Criminal Organizations rely upon illicit networks throughout the world to supply, transport, and distribute cocaine and other dangerous drugs,” said Brian Michael, Special Agent in Charge, HSI Newark.

“HSI’s Border Enforcement Security Task Force in Newark, comprised of CBP, Waterfront Commission of NY Harbor Police, Hudson County Sheriff’s Office, Port Authority Police Department, and Dover Police Department worked together to make this operation a success”.

On October 10, 2018, RACZ was arrested outside his residence in Lakewood, NJ by ICE ERO officers. On the same date, ICE issued a Final Administrative Removal Order.

Taylor used an instant-messaging software application to communicate with minors throughout the United States and internationally. He admitted that he engaged in sexually explicit conversations with at least five minor male victims, ranging from 12 to 15 years old, and residing in various states, including Texas, Massachusetts, Iowa, Michigan, and Colorado. During his conversations with the boys, Taylor typically portrayed himself as a woman.

Taylor repeatedly requested that the boys send sexually explicit photos and videos of themselves engaging in sexually explicit conduct. Taylor posted some of the boys sexually explicit images of women, falsely claiming that they were photos of himself.

Four individuals in the country illegally who have Interpol warrants based on crimes they committed in their home countries were among 105 foreign nationals taken into custody during a five-day operation conducted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) last week in New Jersey. Of those arrested during the operation, 80% had prior criminal convictions and pending criminal charges.

These individuals will go through removal proceedings before an Immigration Judge or for those under a final order of removal; arrangements will be made to remove them from the U.S.

The individuals arrested throughout New Jersey were nationals of Brazil (6), Canada (1), Colombia (1), Costa Rica (1), Cuba (2), Dominican Republic (10), Ecuador (4), Egypt (1), El Salvador (8), Guatemala (13), Honduras (7), Jamaica (4), Korea (2), Mexico (28), Peru (4), Philippines (1), Poland (1), Russia (1), Serbia (1), Slovakia (2), Spain (1), Taiwan (1), Trinidad (1), and Venezuela (4).

During the enforcement action, of the 58 individuals detained by ICE’s ERO for violating U.S. immigration laws:

30 had prior felony convictions for serious or violent offenses;

33 have criminal charges pending; 15 individuals were previously released from local law enforcement custody, correctional facilities and court custody with an active detainer;

Nine were referred for criminal prosecution to the appropriate U.S. Attorney’s Office in the jurisdiction; one is being applied to the U.S. Marshals for failure to register as a sex offender as required by federal law;

9 of those arrested had been previously removed from the United States and returned illegally; and, Four had active Interpol Red Notices.
