On Jan. 19, 2016, Enriquez-Martinez was convicted in the Klickitat County Superior Court for the State of Washington of child molestation in the first degree for which a sentence of 68 months of confinement was imposed.

The city council in Evanston, Illinois, voted 8-1 to distribute $25,000 each to 16 eligible black households to use for home repairs or as down payments on property, a suburb of Chicago to become the first city in the United States to pay reparations to black residents who have suffered housing discrimination. The funds come mostly from a new tax on legalized marijuana, Black Americans were disadvantaged by racist housing decisions. To be eligible, residents must be a black person who lived in Evanston between 1919 to 1969, or a descendant of such a person. The family must also have been a victim of discrimination in housing because of policies or practices in the city in that time.

More than 400 people have now been killed in the suppression of protests in Myanmar since the 1 February coup, after the military seized control of the South East Asian country after an election which Aung San Suu Kyi’s National League for Democracy (NLD) party won by a landslide.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A Clarksville, Tennessee man was arrested last week and charged with possession of child pornography.

Homeland Security Investigation (HSI) agents arrested Austin Kidd, 27, March 17, 2021, at his residence. After appearing before a U.S. Magistrate Judge, he was ordered held in custody pending trial.

“The predators who exploit children through the production and distribution of child pornography often cause the victims to suffer long-term effects,” said Jerry C. Templet, Jr., special agent in charge, HSI Nashville.
“The perpetrator in this case was only steps away from being hired as a substitute teacher for middle school children, making his actions especially egregious. HSI Nashville agents will continue to investigate these perpetrators to ensure they are punished for their heinous actions.”

The exact cost of the latter remains unclear so far, but according to some estimates cited by Bloomberg could reach between $2 and $4 trillion, since Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen announcement that at least part of the bill will have to be paid for by taxpayers instead of using government debt. Biden’s team is reportedly now working on changes to the taxation system that would help to pay for the bill.

There were a record number of children – 3,200 – being held in US immigration facilities on the US-Mexican border as of 8 March, with hundreds continuing to arrive each day, many  being held beyond the legal three-day limit for being processed and transferred. Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas admitted last week that the situation on the border was “overwhelming” but not yet a crisis.

 Chinese staff were injured and trapped in arson attacks by unidentified assailants on garment factories in Hlaingthaya, and managers had called on Myanmar to protect Chinese property and citizens, since it is viewed as being supportive of the military junta that has taken power. Following the confrontation, security forces killed at least 22 anti-coup protesters in the poor, industrial Hlaingthaya suburb of Myanmar’s main city after Chinese-financed factories were set ablaze there. A further 16 protesters were killed in other places, the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP) said, as well as one policeman, making it the bloodiest day since the Feb. 1 coup against elected leader Aung San Suu Kyi:

“It was horrible. People were shot before my eyes. It will never leave my memory,” said one photojournalist on the scene who did not want to be named.
