A big feather in Pfizer hat this morning, as a new sample data from Israel’s vaccination program is attesting that the vaccine prevents 94% of symptomatic infections, performing just as well in a larger sample size populations as it did in the clinical trials, proving highly effective at preventing illness and severe disease among all age groups:

“High vaccination coverage of the most susceptible groups” was key, he said.

Israel’s largest health fund Clalit inspected positive tests in 600,000 vaccinated people and the same number of unvaccinated people, matched by age and health status, and it found 94% fewer infections among the vaccinated group.

Beijing has been accused of spreading information on COVID-19 just three months after the onset of the pandemic, several US polls have suggested, a shock report is claiming:

“State-directed efforts by Russia, China, and Iran to undermine the United States using the bioweapons narrative were to varying degrees less centralized than they initially appeared. There was no single actor – state-based or otherwise – controlling the narrative,” the report apparently authored by the Atlantic Council slams WHO findings that COVID-19 did not come from Wuhan Lab,  suggesting “incoherent and sometimes contradictory” theories had been “spreading and mutating” from numerous sources, including state-backed, individual politicians and online conspiracy groups, without revealing the context of tweets.

The discovery of what was though to be a mosquito bite on the back of the ankle of an Australian man led to chilling discovery of a Buruli ulcer: a bacterial disease that can cause large open wounds and if untreated, lead to permanent disfigurement. It took six weeks discovering the mark to getting a definitive biopsy and taking the right medication, yet another step in the frightening process of “Stopping the Next One” – looking at which diseases are most likely to cause the next global pandemic, and at the scientists racing to keep that from happening. 
The patient had been doing a lot of work in the garden, digging up the soil to make way for a big shed:

“I cut down a bunch of trees that have not been disturbed in 20 years,” he says.

“I’m pretty convinced that [getting the ulcer] coincided with disrupting the trees and possum habitat,” he concluded, and now scientists believe these fluffy creatures may play a key role in the transmission of the Buruli ulcer to humans.

A village in the Erz mountains recorded the Islamic Merkeldom of Germany’s coldest temperature of the winter so far, with the village of Kühnhaide near the Czech border being consistently among the coldest spots in the country, as an Atlantic depression left many parts of provinces with icy roads and weather warnings.

The record low of minus 28.9 degrees Celsius (-20 F) is unofficial, as it was not picked up by the German Meteorological Service (DWD), whose Kachelmann weather service posted the temperature on Twitter:

“The cold depression last night, again in the east with some -20s. In Marienberg-Kühnhaide in the Erz mountains, it was at least -29 degrees, the coldest night this winter.”
