The Washington C area, which includes suburbs in Maryland and Virginia, has recorded over 38,000 cases and more than 1,600 people have died.

President Trump invoked the Defense Production Act, signing a presidential executive order decreeing that meat packing plants must stay open to support the nation’s food supply amid widespread disruptions from the COVID-19 pandemic, as recent closures across the country have threatened “the continued functioning of the national meat and poultry supply chain, undermining critical infrastructure during the national emergency.”
Mr. Trump warned that “any unnecessary closures” of these facilities can disrupt the supply chain, hence the Secretary of Agriculture Sunny Perdue has been granted the authority to”take all appropriate action under that section to ensure that meat and poultry processors continue operations”.
In other news, a potential COVID-19 vaccine developed by Oxford University has shown promising results, protecting six rhesus macaque monkeys from large amounts of virus concentration. Researchers at the National Institute of Health Rocky Mountain Laboratory injected the six monkeys with the Oxford vaccine and then exposed them to large quantities of the virus, which had been shown to cause illness in other monkeys, and happily, 28 days later, all six monkeys were healthy.
