Special agents with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) on Tuesday led an enforcement action that resulted in seizing 21 rifles, 962 rounds of ammunition, ammunition magazines, belt-fed magazines, ballistic plates, armor carriers and ghillie (camouflage) suits.

“Homeland Security Investigations will continue to leverage its expansive authorities to combat transnational criminal organizations,” said Assistant Special Agent in Charge Adrian Flores, HSI Laredo. “HSI’s partnership with federal, state and local law enforcement in Laredo is crucial to ensuring public safety and national security in the U.S. and Mexico.”

According to law enforcement authorities, in June 2018, Task Force members with Laredo’s High-Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) were conducting surveillance of a downtown Laredo parking lot. They witnessed individual transfer boxes from one vehicle to another. Task Force members approached the individual and conducted a preliminary search inside the vehicle. During the search, they discovered a large cache of weapons and other related merchandise. Law enforcement suspect that the merchandise was about to be smuggled to Mexico.

The bounty on the head of Southern Philippines new IS “Emir” Owayda Benito Marohombsar, aka Abu Dar, has been raised from 3 million pesos ($56,150) to 6 million pesos ($112,300), due to Army difficulties capturing him in the hinterlands, as thousands of families have fled their homes in the province of Lanao del Sur following military operations against jihadists of the Maute group.

Firefights erupted after the military launched intelligence operations to hunt down Abu Dar and around 50 other remnants of the Maute group – the militant group that launched a five-month-long siege in the southern Philippines’ Marawi City last year.
“We found their bunkers. They had towers, foxholes, empty shells and a cache of ammunition,” Army spokesman said.Military rule has been extended by Congress until the end of this year in a bid to quell the threat of terrorism.

DOD officials said that about 20,000 migrant “unaccompanied alien children” will be housed on four military bases in Texas and Arkansas, a move precipitated by President Trump’s reversal on the child separation policy debate.

Stubborn differences between conservative and more moderate Republicans in the House have stalled immigration legislation on Capitol Hill, with a vote on a compromise measure delayed until next week.

Mr. Trump said that even if a measure passed, it was doomed in the Senate.

The “Open Borders Foundation” and its “Fake News” media clowns lied again about the little girl who had become the public face of US migrant family separations, a photograph of the Honduran toddler sobbing in a pink jacket was taken at the scene of a border detention, with “failing” Time magazine using the image for its latest cover, depicting President Donald Trump looming over the girl with the caption: “Welcome to America”.

The image was taken by a photographer for the news agency Getty Images, John Moore, on 12 June at McAllen, Texas, as the mother had been breastfeeding her child after crossing the Rio Grande in a raft in the moments before they were detained.

Girl’s father Mr. Valera said his daughter and her mother, Sandra Sanchez, have been detained together in the border town of McAllen as Ms. Sanchez sought asylum, a claim verified by Honduran Deputy Foreign Minister Nelly Jerez.

Carlos Ruiz, the Border Patrol agent who stopped Ms. Sanchez and her daughter, said the mother was asked to set the child down so she could be searched.

About 500 children have been reunited with their families since May, a Homeland Security official said on Thursday.

 Two Guatemalan nationals identified as Antonia Marcos Diego and her husband, Antonio Francisco-Pablo,  were today sentenced to prison in Tacoma, Washington, for their scheme to exploit other Guatemalan nationals for their own financial gain, by luring relatives with promises of better life, but instead loading them with debt and threats of deportation.
 

Antonio Francisco-Pablo, 60, residing in Forks, Washington, was sentenced to three years in prison for one count of forced labor. Antonia Marcos Diego, 42, also residing in Forks, Washington, was sentenced to one year of probation for one count of document servitude in furtherance of forced labor. At the sentencing hearing, U.S. District Judge Ronald B. Leighton described their crimes as a “despicable offense” and a “serious degree of exploitation.” 


“The defendants forced their own family members to work for no pay after luring them to the United States on false promises of a better life,” said Acting Assistant Attorney General John Gore. “The Department of Justice will continue to prosecute labor traffickers, who exploit vulnerable individuals for their own greed and erode the American ideals of freedom, opportunity, and the rule of law.”

Both defendants will pay $18,950 in restitution to the victims. Francisco-Pablo was in the U.S. unlawfully, and it is virtually certain that he will be deported following his prison term. Antonia Marcos Diego will be on probation for one year.

Many subscribe to far-right or anti-Semitic ideologies.

About 400 migrants from a Central American caravan are at the US-Mexico border, with some climbing the border wall ahead of making formal asylum claims that could land them in detention centers.

The month-long caravan that at one point gathered 1,500 immigrants from Honduras, Guatemala, and El Salvador angered President Donald Trump who pressured Mexico to stop the migrants before they reached the border, linking Mexican efforts to stem the flow of Central Americans to the future of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), which is currently being renegotiated in Washington.

“I feel a little cold. I feel anxious,” said Jaime Alexander from El Salvador in the morning, shaking slightly on his way to the Tijuana, Mexico side of the border fence on a Pacific Ocean beach.

A “Silk Road” train, carrying 41 containers of goods valued at 1.5 million U.S. dollars, including LED displays, tires, and lamps, departed from Chengdu, capital of southwest China’s Sichuan Province on the morning of April 12, and arrived in Vienna, Austria on Friday, April 29, an event which Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen described as a symbol of the cooperation between China and Austria.

It traveled over 6000 miles in 15 days through Kazakhstan, Russia, Ukraine, and Slovakia, and slowly pulled into Vienna South Freight Center. From the station, the goods will be transported to the destination.

“This is really a symbol of the cooperation between China and Austria,” Van der Bellen told Xinhua. “We really hope this train is the first step of closer cooperation between China and Austria.”

Attorney General Jeff Sessions today issued the following statement on the Central American ‘Caravan’:

“Pockets of the original, so-called ‘migrant caravan,’ which press reports indicate consists mostly of Honduran nationals, have begun to arrive at our southern border with the intent of claiming asylum. These individuals—and their smugglers—ignored the will of the Mexican government to allow them to stay in Mexico.

“Let today’s message be clear: our nation has the most generous immigration system in the world, but this is a deliberate attempt to undermine our laws and overwhelm our system. There is no right to demand entry without justification. Smugglers and traffickers and those who lie or commit fraud will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

“Promoting and enforcing the rule of law is essential to protecting a nation, its borders, and its citizens. But, as President Trump has warned, the need to fix these loopholes and weaknesses in our immigration system is critical and overdue.

“Accordingly, I have directed our U.S. Attorneys at the border to take whatever immediate action to ensure that we have sufficient prosecutors available. I have also directed that we commit any additional necessary immigration judges to adjudicate any cases that may arise from this ‘caravan.’”

Oil prices hit $75, the highest level in nearly three and a half years, as fears mounted over the prospect of new US sanctions on Iran, to be decided by 12th of May of whether or not to abandon a nuclear deal and re-impose sanctions. 

“All bets are off on the US staying in the nuclear agreement,” an oil futures analyst said, since Mr.Trump has indicated that unless European allies fix the “terrible flaws” in the accord, he will restore US economic sanctions on Iran, a move that can push oil prices up by as much as $5 a barrel.
