Following an investigation by ICE’s Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and subsequent prosecution from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern istrict of New York (ENY), Yong Min Choe, 55, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to conceal and harbor illegal aliens by employing them at his 7-Eleven franchise in Brentwood, New York. When sentenced, Choe faces up to 10 years’ imprisonment as well as a fine of up to twice the value of the gross gain. Additionally, Choe agreed to forfeit more than .3 million in assets that represent proceeds of the offense.
In March 2004, Choe began operating the 7-Eleven store in Long Island and agreed to abide by state and local labor laws. Between 2004 and November 2019, Choe hired individuals who did not have authorization to work in the United States and allowed those employees to use false social security numbers and other personal identifying information. As a result, Choe was able to pay his employees sub-standard wages and enrich himself.
“Over the course of 15 years, Choe knowingly hired individuals who had no legal authorization to work in the U.S., then took advantage of their illegal status by paying them inadequate wages with long hours,HSI and its law enforcement partners are committed to protecting our communities from the abuses of corrupt business owners seeking to gain an illegal advantage and make a steep profit off the backs of others”, stated Peter C. Fitzhugh, special agent in charge of HSI New York.

.In other news, President Trump did undercut his own intelligence agencies by suggesting he has seen evidence coronavirus originated in a Chinese laboratory, despite statement by DNI director’s office saying it was still investigating how the virus began, claiming Covid-19 was not manmade or genetically modified.

“Have you seen anything at this point that gives you a high degree of confidence that the Wuhan Institute of Virology was the origin of this virus?”

“I can’t tell you that. I’m not allowed to tell you that. Whether they [China] made a mistake, or whether it started off as a mistake and then they made another one, or did somebody do something on purpose?I don’t understand how traffic, how people weren’t allowed into the rest of China, but they were allowed into the rest of the world. That’s a bad, that’s a hard question for them to answer”.

After delivering remarks on how the federal government looks to protect American senior citizens from the COVID-19 novel coronavirus, President Trump told reporters on Thursday that the “Land of the Free” could impose tariffs as retaliatory measures against China over the pandemic.
When asked if he would consider canceling US debt obligations to China as punishment over the deadly outbreak, Trump said that he could enforce tariffs instead:
“I could do it differently, I could do the same thing but even for more money, just by putting on tariffs”, the president told the media during a question and answer period during the East Room event.
He also went on to question why China allowed people to leave and travel around the globe when they were aware of the respiratory illness’ emergence.
Trump also confirmed to reporters that he has observed things that give him confidence that the contagious disease originated in the Wuhan Institute of Virology – a theory that goes against previous statements issued by the World Health Organization (WHO).
