MEDFORD, Ore. – The leader of a southern Oregon drug-trafficking organization responsible for distributing large quantities of methamphetamine and heroin in and around Klamath Falls, Oregon, was sentenced to federal prison today, announced U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Acting Special Agent in Charge Eben Roberts and Billy J. Williams, U.S. Attorney for the District of Oregon.
Rogelio Gomez-Arias, 24, of Klamath Falls, was sentenced to 135 months in federal prison and five years’ supervised release.
According to court documents, in May 2018, southern Oregon law enforcement began investigating Gomez-Arias’ trafficking organization. Investigators learned than an individual in Mexico supplied the organization with methamphetamine in exchange for cash and firearms, and instructed it to transport narcotics to other west coast cities and beyond.

Rescue workers in Lebanon are searching for dozens of people missing a day after a huge explosion devastated the port area of the capital, Beirut, killing at least 113 people and injuring more than 4,000 others.
President Michel Aoun said the blast was caused by 2,750 tones of ammonium nitrate stored unsafely in a warehouse, and all port officials have been put under house arrest pending an investigation, after the customs chief said that he had repeatedly called for the ammonium nitrate to be removed, but “this did not happen, and we leave it to the experts to determine the reasons”.
Ammonium nitrate is used as a fertilizer in agriculture and as an explosive.

New York State is introducing a bill, titled S8700A, studied now by the New York’s Senate Consumer Protection Committee, that would facilitate suing big tech companies for abuse of their monopoly, based on the assumption that big tech market players need to be effectively reined in, to ensure robust competition, especially in one of the US’ key financial hubs, a legal action that would set an example all across the country.
Big Apple’s old antitrust laws were built for a completely different economy, “Their power has grown to dangerous levels, and we need to start reining them in”, said the bill’s sponsor, State Senator Mike Gianaris.
“I was struck by the brazen tone of the witnesses. Some of the things they were admitting to appeared to me to be violations of existing laws”, he added.
