According to FDA, six cases were detected in more than 6.8 million doses of the vaccine, Johnson & Johnson has paused its EU rollout, which started this week, and it  follows similar cases after doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine, which prompted curbs to its use.

The FDA said it was recommending the temporary pause “out of an abundance of caution”, after confirming that one patient died from blood clotting complications, and another is in a critical condition.

All six cases were in women aged between 18 and 48, with symptoms appearing six to 13 days after vaccination.

“’Unknown resistance forces’ target Mossad safe house in Northern Iraq,” Sabereen News Telegram reported Wednesday morning, adding that several “Israeli spies were killed” and promising to soon share photos of the operation.

The report did not say the city where the safe house was located, and only identified its source as an announcement from “a security source.”

According to Iran Press News Agency, Sabereen is an outlet connected to Harakat Hezbollah al-Nujaba (Movement of the Party of God’s Nobles), a Shiite militia in Iraq. Iran’s PressTV noted that no other news sources in northern Iraq have reported on the attack so far.

U.S. Republican leaders have not missed the opportunity to blast Democrats over the House passage of the 1.9-trillion-U.S.-dollar COVID-19 relief package, calling it a partisan process to push through Democratic agenda during the pandemic:

“In 2020, Congress passed five COVID-19 rescue packages. All five were completely bipartisan,” Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell said in a statement this week, after the Democrats-held House approved the relief package amid unanimous Republican opposition.

McConnell continued that the five rescue packages approved last year were the largest peacetime fiscal expansion in American history, “yet no bill earned fewer than 90 votes in the Senate or less than about 80 percent support in the House.”

The latest relief, a major legislation for President Joe Biden, cleared the lower chamber of Congress by a vote of 219 to 212, with lawmakers largely voting along party lines, with two Democrats defected and voted against it.

Johnson & Johnson’s one-shot COVID-19 vaccine received approval by US regulators, making it the third jab available in the country, a vast improvement from previous medicines that requires only one dose to be effective, as the US Food and Drug Administration greenlit Johnson & Johnson’s one-dose coronavirus vaccine for emergency use this week. The authorization was approved a day after an independent panel of experts gave their recommendation for the jab, being the third vaccine to be approved in the US, following in the footsteps of the BioNTech-Pfizer and Moderna vaccines:

“The authorization of this vaccine expands the availability of vaccines, the best medical prevention method for Covid-19, to help us in the fight against this pandemic, which has claimed over half a million lives in the United States,” said acting Food and Drug Administration director Janet Woodcock.

US President Joe Biden welcomed the news, calling it an “encouraging development,” but warned people that “we cannot let our guard down now or assume that victory is inevitable.”

“Things are still likely to get worse again as new variants spread,” the president said.

The New Jersey-based company is planning to deliver some 20 million doses to the country by the end of March with a total of 100 million doses planned for the first half of the year.

The Johnson & Johnson vaccine is simpler than the alternatives as it only requires one shot. Global clinical trials showed that it was 66% effective at preventing various COVID-19 variants and 85% effective at protecting people from developing severe infections.

The Centers for Disease Control reported on Saturday that around 48.4 million people in the US have received at least one shot of a coronavirus vaccine so far. Nearly 512,000 people have died of COVID-19 in the United States, more than any other nation, though Belgium has suffered the most deaths per capita.
