This week, the country welcomed an announcement from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau that Pzifer-BioNTech had agreed to accelerate delivery of five million vaccine doses, a desperate attempt for a country waging war with a surge of new Covid-19 variants which threaten to overwhelm an already strained hospital system. The country has recorded more than 980,080 infections and almost 23,000 deaths.

India’s health ministry said it has identified a new double mutant variant of the COVID19 across half the country’s states as well as many other strains or variants of concern, but the ministry said its researchers are not sure if it is the reason for the rapid spread of the infection around the country.

The Indian benchmark indices fell more than one percent amid fear of a massive jump in coronavirus cases and identification of new mutant variants in the country’s 18 states. Metals, auto, and financial stocks also witnessed a major sell-off by investors.

With COVID19 cases numbers roaring upwards, Health Minister Jens Spahn has said Germany’s health system could be pushed to its limits in April, warning that cases could reach 100,000 per day, as latest press conference comes as the country struggles to battle a third wave of infections. State health officials warned that the current increase in coronavirus cases is likely going to be “harder to curb” than the previous two, in large part because of the more virulent and more easily transmitted B117 variant.

There are “clear signs” that the third wave that Germany currently is in “could be even worse than the first two waves,” said RKI president Wieler, as at a joint press conference with Health Minister Spahn, Wieler appealed for people to reduce their social contacts over the Easter holidays.

BEIJING, March 26 (Xinhua) — The China National Space Administration (CNSA) released two new images of Mars captured by the country’s Tianwen-1 probe, and in the images, Mars is crescent-shaped with a clear surface texture. When the Tianwen-1 probe was 11,000 km away from Mars on the far side of the planet to the sun, it took panoramic photos of Mars with a medium-resolution camera onboard, with  Tianwen-1 probe operating in the parking orbit around Mars for a month. The high-resolution camera, medium-resolution camera, mineral spectrometer and other payloads onboard were switched on successively to carry out exploration of Mars and obtain scientific data, according to the CNSA.

A group of US B-1 bomber aircraft have accomplished the first ever landing in the Arctic Circle as well as in Poland as part of the most recent Bomber Task Force mission, the US Air Force disclosed last week:

“The B-1s accomplished a number of historic firsts during this deployment. They were the first bombers to deploy to Norway, land in the Arctic Circle and land in Poland where they conducted the first hot-pit refuel of a B-1 in Europe, demonstrating a critical agile combat employment capability”, the release said.

The Air Force explained the group of B-1 bombers conducted nine sorties while integrating with other NATO allies’ aircraft from Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Poland, Germany and Italy, while yet another US bomber, a B-2 Spirit, accomplished its final mission as part of Bomber Task Force on 25 March.

“As we send this legislation to the Senate, the House will continue our fight for 15 ($15/hour), which would give 27 million American workers a raise,” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, the top Democrat in the lower chamber, announced in a statement.

She noted that the minimum wage increase is a “financial necessity” for American families, an effective stimulus for the economy and a moral imperative for the country, since the federal minimum wage went up to 7.25 dollars in 2009, and hasn’t been raised in over a decade, and has been one of President Joe Biden’s 2020 campaign promises, and has been an important Democratic agenda.

“We know that a 7.25-dollar federal minimum wage is insane. It is a starvation wage, and we’ve got to raise it to at least 15 dollars an hour over the next several years,” Bernie Sanders, who serves as Senate Budget Committee chairman, said in a recent video.

“Walmart, the largest employer in America, is owned by the richest family in America … But the company they own starts workers off at 11 dollars an hour. That is outrageous,” Sanders said.

Despite strong support from Democrats, Republican lawmakers have opposed the idea, arguing that it would lead to a loss of jobs, and could hurt vulnerable businesses, especially under a pandemic.

The former US president has made his first major public appearance after leaving office, Trump pleasing his supporters that he may “beat” Biden in 2024, all this year’s CPAC event carried the tagline: ‘America uncancelled’, as he took to the stage on Sunday evening at the Conservative Political Action Conference being held in Orlando amid questions over the former president’s political future.

“I may even decide to beat them for a third time,” he then told his cheering fans, hinting that he might indeed run for a second term in 2024, with the “third” time was a reference to his first election win in 2016 and the false claim that he won in 2020.

The former president Trump began his speech by telling the audience that, despite rumors, he was not planning on starting a new party, saying was not necessary since he already had the Republican party. However, he spent more time painting Joe Biden’s administration and the Democratic party as being a massive failure only weeks after it took power.

A new COVID19 fighting substance named Coronil was launched recently at an event attended by some Indian government ministers, even though there is no evidence that it works, and misleading claims have been made about approval for its use, being a combination of herbs used in traditional Indian medicine and sold by Patanjali, a big consumer goods company in India, under the same name.

It was promoted by popular yoga guru Baba Ramdev, and described – without any basis – as a “cure” for Covid-19, but soon the marketing had to stop after an intervention by the Indian government, which said there was no data to show it worked as a treatment, still it said it could continue to be sold as “an immunity booster”.

 Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan present – at which claims were repeated that it could prevent and treat Covid-19, attracted criticism from India’s largest doctors’ body, the Indian Medical Association, that described the promotion of an “unscientific medicine” in the presence of the health minister as an “insult to the people of India”, and asked the minister to clarify whether he supported it as a cure.
