India’s biomedical research body aka Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), is concerned about another virus outbreak in China – the Cat Que Virus (CQV) in mosquitoes and pigs – triggering concerns of a global impact, since it was detected in so-called Culex mosquitoes in China and pigs in Vietnam, which, as per the study, points to a possible susceptibility of Asian countries to the virus.
This is most unwelcome news, since first being reported in China’s Wuhan city in late 2019, the coronavirus, or COVID-19, has spread around the world, causing the deaths of over a million people, and the new virus threat can cause febrile illnesses, meningitis, and paediatric encephalitis in humans:
“Anti-CQV IgG antibody positivity in human serum samples tested and the replication capability of CQV in mosquitoes indicated a possible disease causing potential of CQV in Indian scenario. Screening of more human and swine serum samples using these assays is required as a proactive measure for understanding the prevalence of this neglected tropical virus”, says the study.

Russian President Vladimir Putin is considering inoculating against COVID-19, Kremlin said in a statement:
“Naturally, in the case of the head of state, special precautions are taken. He has already stated that he is thinking about the vaccination. Therefore, let’s wait until he makes such a decision”, the spokesman suggested.
On 11 August, Putin said that his daughter had been inoculated with Russian-made vaccine, president adding that on the first day after taking the vaccine, his daughter’s temperature rose to 38.4, and on the second day, to slightly “over 37”.
“And after the second vaccination, 21 days later, there was also a slight rise in temperature, but everything is fine”, Putin noted.
Russia became the first country in the world to register a vaccine against COVID-19, developed by the Gamaleya research institute and dubbed Sputnik V. The vaccine is currently in the third and last phase of clinical trials, as per World Health Organisation protocols. According to the Health Ministry, Sputnik V is safe and has proven to be capable of building immunity against the virus.
