George Sorbane Quotes:

1. “So Alex was counting the days until he would step on the holy soil of Boston, ready to breathe the cold Atlantic air and sense the spirits of those remarkable people about whom he had read so much with nearly religious admiration, walk the streets in their footsteps, and pray in the churches where they had found peace and solace in times of fateful junction.”― “The Endless Beginning”

2…………> US On Dangerous Path: President Trump

President Trump’s legal team issued a  furious response ahead of opening arguments in his impeachment trial, rejecting of the impeachment charges, and encouraged the Senate to reject “poisonous partisanship”, while House Democrats led by Nancy, “Anyone caught urinating in front of my mansion will be deported to Arizona” Pelosi  presented their case in forceful fashion, saying the President betrayed public trust with behavior that was the “worst nightmare” of the founding fathers, and released a document supporting their charges.

“President Donald J. Trump used his official powers to pressure a foreign government to interfere in a United States election for his personal political gain. [He] then attempted to cover up his scheme by obstructing Congress’s investigation into his misconduct,” House impeachment managers wrote.

“The Senate should convict and remove President Trump to avoid serious and long-term damage to our democratic values and the nation’s security,” the document said, for the first time formally calling for the Senate to convict the President and remove him from office.

Mr. Trump’s legal team issued a resounding rejection of the impeachment charges, which were read out in the Senate earlier in the week during formalities setting the stage for the trial.

“President Trump categorically and unequivocally denies each and every allegation in both articles of impeachment,” the Trump lawyers’ document said.

“This is a brazen and unlawful attempt to overturn the results of the 2016 election and interfere with the 2020 election — now just months away,” they argued in a six-page document released on Saturday.

3……………> China’s Forgotten Children: In The Millions

Nearly 7 million children are “left behind” in rural areas while both parents worked in big cities to support the family, with the wealth divide and the strict household registration policy that limits the free migration of the population in China to blame for the social phenomenon.

“We haven’t spoken much for many years. We started to quarrel whenever we tried to talk to each other, so we just gave up on talking if [there was] nothing important,” a forgotten child told abc.net.au reporter.

“I know many people are in a similar position with me, with parents working away and being brought up by grandparents.

“But what I can’t let go of is parents of others at least come back home every Spring Festival. My parents haven’t come back for 10 years. They care too much about money.”

4……………> A Mayhem In Beirut: Arrests & Injuries

More than 370 people have been injured during several hours of clashes between Lebanese security forces and protesters that rocked central Beirut on Saturday, as police fired tear gas and unleashed water cannon on the crowds, and protests erupted following the government imposition of the “Whatsapp tax.”
People struggle to withdraw more than a few hundred dollars from banks each week, with the country sinking deeper into an economic crisis, and anger has boiling over at a ruling elite who have dominated power since the 1975-1990 civil war.

The Lebanese Red Cross said it had treated 220 people who were wounded on both sides on Saturday, taking 80 of them to hospital. The Civil Defense said it had given first aid to 114 others and taken 43 people to hospital, and The Internal Security Forces said 142 police were injured.

5…………> Orthodox Christians Take Epiphany Ice Baths

Millions of Orthodox Christians have taken their annual plunge into freezing waters to mark Epiphany. The ritual, to mark the baptism of Jesus, involves submerging yourself three times to “wash away your sins.”

2…………..> Criminal Aliens Released Despite ICE Detainer: Franklin County, Ohio

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office has released 29 criminal aliens and immigration violators since November 2019, despite written detainer requests filed with them by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
“When dangerous criminal aliens are released into the community, public safety is needlessly put at risk because of the individual’s propensity to re-offend,” said Rebecca Adducci, field office director for ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) in Michigan and Ohio.

“ICE remains committed to arresting and removing criminal aliens in the interest of public safety and national security, despite local decisions to not honor detainers and jeopardize the safety of its citizens.”

ICE recently apprehended the following criminal alien after his release from the Franklin County Sherriff’s Office with an active detainer in place:

Hajir Muhammud, a 59-year old national of Somalia, was arrested by local authorities Dec. 27, for failure to register as a Tier 1 sex offender. He is a convicted sex offender for crimes involving children. ICE lodged a detainer following his arrest. He was subsequently released after Franklin County declined to honor the ICE detainer. On Jan. 6, ICE arrested Muhammud, and he is currently in custody pending removal proceedings.

However, several criminal aliens released by the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office are currently at-large. Efforts by ICE to apprehend these men are currently underway.

3……………> The Ungrateful Ayatollah: Trump Is A Clown?

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei says the “real punishment” will be forcing US out of Middle East, called President Trump a “clown” who only pretends to support the Iranian people, and will “push a poisonous dagger” into their backs, declared air strikes against America “shows hand of God”, and Iran will not negotiate with the infidels.

In his first sermon in Tehran in eight years, said the funerals for Iran’s top general Qassam Soleimani, who was killed in a US airstrike earlier this month, showed that the Iranian people supported the Islamic Republic despite its recent trials.

“Resistance will continue until the region is completely freed from the enemy’s tyranny,” he said.

4…………> Rolls-Rois New Engine: A Glimpse Into The Future?

Rolls-Royce says the Ultrafan engine will be quieter and more fuel efficient than anything it has made before, using giant carbon composite blades tipped with titanium, with giant robots laying thousands of strips of carbon fiber tape to form a cylinder almost 12ft in diameter.

Making the fan casing and blades from carbon fibers should result in a 20% weight saving compared with previous materials, as the aerospace industry is under pressure to reduce its environmental impact., making aircraft are getting more efficient, as  Rolls-Royce estimates that nearly 37,000 new planes will be needed in 20 years.

5…………> Is China Crash Coming? The Trump Noose

Growth in the world’s second-largest economy, China to be exact, has fallen to its lowest level since 1992, stocking fears of more layoffs in the months ahead, leaving many observers to wonder how many jobs the country can lose before unrest erupts.
China’s growth rate was just 6.1% in 2019, the third straight drop in annual GDP, following already modest growth, of 6.6% in the year before. The slowest growth rate since 1992 was caused by weak domestic demand and trade tensions (aka tariff wars) with the United States, with Chinese officials said expecting the growth momentum to remain “generally stable.”

“However, we should also be aware that the global economic and trade growth is slowing down,” said National Bureau of Statistics Commissioner Ning Jizhe at a news conference in Beijing, admitting that the Chinese economy was facing “mounting downward pressure” in 2020.
Gao Shanwen, chief economist for Shenzhen-based research firm Essence Securities expects China’s economy to keep growing, but at a rate of just 5% on average in the next decade, pointing out in a recent research note that the country would have to work very hard to maintain a growth rate above even 4% — at least two percentage points lower than what Beijing is expected to set as a goal for this year.
China’s official jobless rate has hovered between 4% and 5%, but recent government statements suggest that the communist rulers are unusually worried about the slowing economy and its impact on the jobs market.

2…………..> ICE Most Wanted: Venezuela’s Bribes King

ICE Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) announced earlier this month the addition of Raul Antonio De La Santisima Trinidad Gorrin Belisario, a Venezuelan attorney and businessman, to its Most Wanted list for conspiracy to violate the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) and several counts of money laundering, following indictment filed on August 16, 2017, in the Southern District of Florida, Gorrin Belisario’s subsequent escape from justice, and the updated FinCEN advisory (FIN-2019-A002, published by the U.S. Treasury Department’s Financial Crimes Enforcement Network May 3, 2019) regarding widespread public corruption in Venezuela.

The indictment alleges that Gorrin Belisario, 50, a Venezuelan citizen with a residence in Miami, Florida, paid millions of dollars in bribes to two high-level Venezuelan officials to secure the rights to conduct foreign currency exchange transactions at favorable rates for the Venezuelan government. In addition to wiring money to bribe the officials, he allegedly purchased and paid expenses for them related to private jets, yachts, homes, champion horses, high-end watches, and a fashion line. To conceal the bribery payments, Gorrin Belisario made payments through multiple shell companies. Furthermore, he allegedly partnered with other subjects to acquire Banco Peravia, a bank in the Dominican Republic, to launder bribes paid to Venezuelan officials and stash the illicit proceeds of the scheme.

Gorrin Belisario was last seen in Caracas, Venezuela, and currently remains at-large.

3……………> US Watchdog After Trump: Law Breaking Accusation

In yet another partisan attack on President Trump, the Government Accountability Office (GAO) said in a report that the Trump Administration violated the law in holding up the aid, which Congress passed less than a year ago.
“The President is not vested with the power to ignore or amend any such duly enacted law,” the report said.
The findings are not legally binding and have no prosecutorial  power, and the aid was held up on orders from Mr. Trump, but was released after a complaint.
“Faithful execution of the law does not permit the President to substitute his own policy priorities for those that Congress has enacted into law,” the agency’s general counsel wrote in the report, completely ignoring the fact that son of current Democratic party leading candidate for President of the United States Joe, “Sleeping in a wrong century” Biden, Hunter was paid a million dollars a year to sit on a company board, just because it provided a channel for influence on US Government decision making: i.e. a  blatant corruption.

4…………> The Bashful Chinese Banker: Apartment Full With Cash

A top Chinese banker identified as Lai Xiaomin confessed to taking more than 200 million yuan ($42 million) in cash bribes and stuffing the notes in cabinets in his apartment, due to being “too scared to spend” his millions in cash bribes as chairman of China Huarong Asset Management, one of the country’s top banks, and the Communist Party chief inside the company.

He confirmed taking the bribes during a confession in a documentary on state broadcaster CCTV.

Authorities found the cash was packed into cupboards, along with a large number of other items such as luxury watches, gold and artworks. The documentary also said Mr. Lai owned numerous properties and luxury cars.

“I didn’t even spend a cent … It’s all confiscated by the [Communist] Party in the end. What’s the point to have that much money?” Mr. Lai said.

5…………> Chinese Drone Fishermen: Better Paid Than MD’s

It has been known for some time that “China rewards fishers who netted foreign spy devices,” but it was 11 three fishermen receiving awards, one woman, the rest men – who found seven devices in total, spy drones to be specific on Jiangsu shores.

And the ceremony following, the rewards were huge – up to 500,000 yuan ($72,000) – around 17 times the average disposable income in China.

Jiangsu shoreline is stretching for some 620 miles, facing Japan and South Korea, while Taiwan is around 500 miles south. This geography – and the huge US presence in the region, is the reason keep finding these drones.
