Greenland has said it is “not for sale” after President Trump stated that he would like the US to buy the world’s biggest island.
The president is said to have discussed the idea of purchasing Greenland, an autonomous Danish territory, during dinners and meetings with advisers, saying that “Greenland is rich in valuable resources such as minerals, the purest water and ice, fish stocks, seafood, renewable energy and is a new frontier for adventure tourism.”
But Greenland’s government dismissed the idea, saying: “We’re open for business, not for sale”,and Mr. Trump’s plans have also been quickly dismissed by politicians in Denmark.
“It must be an April Fool’s Day joke,” one politican said.
The Wall Street Journal (WSJ), which first reported the news, said Mr. Trump had spoken about the purchase with “varying degrees of seriousness”.

The asteroid is expected to pass within a distance of 0.03 AU from Earth, after it completes its orbit of the Sun.
The asteroid is about 2 miles across in diameter, which effectively “puts it in the same ball-park as the space rock which put an end to the dinosaurs,” and it is expected to come within 32 million miles distance of Earth on 6 June, 2027.

Two former correctional officers at Elayn Hunt Correctional Center in St. Gabriel, Louisiana, were sentenced today for their roles in assaults on a handcuffed inmate in January 2017. Adrian Almodovar III and Charles Philson III previously pleaded guilty to depriving the inmate of his constitutional rights while acting under color of law.
Philson previously pleaded guilty to witnessing other correctional officers using unlawful force on J.H. and failing to intervene to stop them. He was sentenced to 12 months probation.
