NEW YORK – U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Enforcement Removal Operations (ERO) officers took custody of Fernando Olea-Prado, 25, a self-described leader of the Sureños (Sur 13) street gang, in Corona, New York, Oct. 1.
ICE previously removed Olea-Prado, who illegally entered the U.S. at an undetermined time and location, on two separate occasions in August 2013.
On Sept. 11, 2020, New York Police Department arrested and charged Olea-Prado, an unlawfully present Mexican national, with three counts of robbery, assault, criminal possession of a weapon, and criminal possession of stolen property.
After his most recent arrest, Olea-Prado had been released from local law enforcement custody despite being the subject of an active ICE detainer. Local law enforcement agencies routinely fail to honor ICE detainers as a matter of policy, which was adopted by the local city government.
“Where is the concern for the safety of the citizens that these local politicians were elected to protect?” asks Thomas R. Decker, ERO New York field office director.
“It’s reprehensible that local politicians passed a law that allows a twice-removed, violent street gang member to be released from custody to commit more violence in this city.”

SEATTLE – A 41-year-old Seattle man was sentenced today in U.S. District Court in Seattle to 70 months in prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm and smuggling, announced Acting ICE Homeland Security Investigation (HSI) Special Agent in Charge Eben Roberts and U.S. Attorney Brian T. Moran. Nathan Brasfield was arrested in February 2020 when agents seized 17 pistols and 24 rifles from his home—most of the firearms had been manufactured at his residence as ‘ghost guns’—guns without any serial numbers or registration. At the sentencing hearing, U.S. District Judge Richard A. Jones said he was very concerned about the sheer volume of guns and silencers Brasfield possessed.  “You have your own perception of the 2nd Amendment. Your perception is completely inconsistent with the law and will continue to land you in prison,” Judge Jones said.

“Brasfield has a lengthy criminal history and has shown time and time again that he has no regard for the law,” said Acting Special Agent in Charge of ICE Homeland Security Investigations Seattle Eben Roberts.
“A repeat felon, caught in possession of an illegally modified automatic firearm, is nothing short of a recipe for disaster. Brasfield, and criminals like him, should take today’s sentence as a stern warning. HSI and our law enforcement partners, working together, will seek, investigate, and ultimately bring to justice all those who seek to disregard our nation’s laws.”

Jun Wei Yeo, also known as Dickson Yeo, was sentenced today in federal court to 14 months in prison.  Yeo pled guilty on July 24, 2020 to acting within the United States as an illegal agent of a foreign power without first notifying the Attorney General, in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 951: 
“At the direction of the Government of the People’s Republic of China, Yeo recruited Americans to provide information that he would pass back to his PRC handlers,” said Assistant Attorney General for National Security John C. Demers.  
“Yeo concealed his PRC affiliation from his recruits and, contrary to law, from the United States Government.  This criminal conduct is part of the PRC’s efforts to exploit the openness of American society by using agents who may appear innocuous, but who act upon taskings from a foreign government to obtain access and information.”
“This case serves as a reminder that China is using professional networking social media sites to target U.S. citizens with government security clearances, and to try to gain non-public and classified information.  The threat is real, and we will prosecute foreign agents who exploit those platforms,” said Michael R. Sherwin, Acting United States Attorney for the District of Columbia.
“Today we are reminded yet again of the Chinese government’s aggressive attempts to gain knowledge and information about U.S. policy and government,” said James A. Dawson, Acting Assistant Director in Charge of the FBI’s Washington Field Office.
“The FBI’s warning is not new, but the message warrants repeating: the Chinese communist government is working to gain information and access by all means, including recruiting US-based individuals to provide classified and/or sensitive information. There is no doubt that if you are a former clearance holder, you are an ideal and vulnerable target because of your knowledge and access.  If you believe you have been the target of a recruitment scheme, the FBI is here to help. We remain committed to rebuffing the Chinese government’s attempts, and to protecting the American people, our ideas, and our national and economic security interests.”

The commission said both campaigns had announced “alternate plans for that date”:

“It is now apparent there will be no debate on October 15, and the CPD will turn its attention to preparations for the final presidential debate scheduled for October 22,” the commission said in an emailed statement.

On the third day of unrest in Kenosha, Wisconsin an armed teen, identified as the 17-year-old Kyle Rittenhouse allegedly shot three people, and has now been charged with killing two people and injuring another during protests against the police shooting of a black man in Wisconsin following the demonstrations sparked by the shooting.

He told the media that it was “his job” to guard buildings in Kenosha against protesters, is now facing six criminal counts, and his social media profiles suggests he is a supporter of President Trump, and is passionate about the police and guns.

Who is the teen accused of Wisconsin protest murders, and what happened before the shooting?
Videos on social media appeared to show a man with a rifle being chased by a crowd before he fell to the ground, and appeared to fire at them, a tragic shooting that took the lives of Joseph Rosenbaum, 36 and Anthony Huber, 26, both died in the incident. Gaige Grosskreutz, also 26, was injured.

By contrast, she said his Democrat challenger, former Vice President Joe Biden, had a “a record of weakness and failure.” In the opening address, the founder of a conservative student organization, Charlie Kirk said that Trump was “the bodyguard of Western civilization.”

The second evening was more of a family affair, with two more of the president’s children, Tiffany and Eric, making appearances. His wife Melania also delivered a speech, highlighting his “honesty.” “Whether you like it or not, you always know what he’s thinking,” she said.

Among Republicans, Trump’s approval ratings were over 90% even before these laudatory speeches. So, is all well within the Republican Party as opposed to the Democrat Party, where there is a rift between the moderate and progressive wings? Not quite.

An unlawfully present Guatemalan citizen who was charged due to his involvement in a gang-related shooting in Queens, a man identified as Denery Steven Lemus-Najarro, 21, is in federal custody following his Aug. 18, arrest by the New York Police Department:

“It’s important that the citizens of New York City understand that the sanctuary city policies enacted by local politicians jeopardize public safety,” said Thomas R. Decker, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) New York field office director.

“These policies embolden gang members, such as Lemus-Najarro, to brazenly commit crimes in this city without fear of repercussion. It’s unfortunate that the lives and safety of the citizens they have been elected to protect are second to those of the criminal aliens. ICE detainers are an important tool this agency uses to remove violent criminals from our communities.”

According to public court documents, Lemus-Najarro is an alleged 18th Street gang member with an outstanding removal order. Law enforcement officers identified Lemus-Najarro as the suspect in the Aug. 14 shooting in Queens. The incident left one man with a gunshot wound to the leg.

He attacked Joe Biden as the Democratic “puppet president”, urging to “be true to who you are now, not who the Democrats used to be”.
