WASHINGTON – Today, the Justice Department, the Department of Homeland Security, and the Department of the Treasury announced the dismantling of three terrorist financing cyber-enabled campaigns, involving the al-Qassam Brigades, Hamas’s military wing, al-Qaeda, and Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (“ISIS”). This coordinated operation is detailed in three forfeiture complaints and a criminal complaint unsealed today in the District of Columbia. 

These three terror finance campaigns all relied on sophisticated cyber-tools, including the solicitation of cryptocurrency donations from around the world. The action demonstrates how different terrorist groups have similarly adapted their terror finance activities to the cyber age. Each group used cryptocurrency and social media to garner attention and raise funds for their terror campaigns. Pursuant to judicially-authorized warrants, U.S. authorities seized millions of dollars, over 300 cryptocurrency accounts, three websites, and four Facebook pages all related to the criminal enterprise.

A strike group led by the USS Ronald Reagan conducted flight operations and high-end maritime stability operations and exercises:

The drill comes amid heightened tensions between the United States and China, as Washington has assailed Beijing over its coronavirus response, and accused it of taking advantage of the pandemic to push territorial claims in the South China Sea and elsewhere, long opposed by the US by regularly sending warships through the strategic waterway.

Brunei, Malaysia, the Philippines, Taiwan and Vietnam have competing claims.

In 1940, after World War II had begun, the female guards became members of elite death squad the SS (Schutzstaffel, Protection Squadron) of Hitler, and one of those was Maria Mandl who did  witness all inhumane brutality as the senior overseer of the all-women’s concentration camp in Ravensbrück, Germany:

“There was nothing bad about the camp,” she innocently declared at a tribunal for Nazi collaborators, shortly before being hanged in 1948, following a Krakow court that sentenced her to death as a war criminal at age of 36.

Lightning photographed above Devonshire Dock Hall in Barrow-in-Furness, as skies across England were lit up by lightning as thunderstorms hit overnight following the heatwave.

More storms are forecast for the rest of the week with lightning and torrential downpours predicted for many.

The Met Office has issued a weather warning covering most of the UK which stretches until Thursday evening.
