Iran’s admission it “unintentionally” shot down a Ukrainian passenger jet has sparked demands for justice for the 176 people on board who were killed, with the Ukraine’s president and the prime minister of Canada leading the cry for punishing the parties guilty of this outrage.
Social media footage has shown protests in Iran, some of them calling for Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei to resign, as the plane was shot down, hours after Iran had struck two air bases housing US forces in Iraq.
Those missile strikes were Iran’s response to the US killing of senior Iranian commander Qasem Soleimani. He died in a drone strike in Baghdad on 3 January.

Rain in parts of Victoria gave firefighters a break from the nasty climate terror, but forecast storms are now threatening to cause “exceptionally dangerous” flash flooding in fire-affected areas next week, as the cool front reached the area, and violent winds badgered exhausted crews, with everyone preying for milder weather.
Rain has fallen on firegrounds in parts of East Gippsland, where a huge blaze has been raging for weeks, but other areas missed out on significant falls, including the north-east and fire-ravaged Mallacoota in the far-east.
The rain has not been enough to extinguish the large so-called “campaign fires” burning across much of the state’s east, but will allow fatigued crews to be rested while the immediate danger subsides.
Authorities warned the wetter weather would bring with it the risk of severe thunderstorms, which could lead to more risk on the fire grounds.
