Former White House assistant Fiona Hill said the conclusion that Russia meddled in the US election “is beyond dispute”, alleging that Russian President Vladimir Putin said he was pleased the “political battles” in Washington had overtaken the Russia allegations, but Mr. Trump tweeted during the live televised hearing, casting doubt on a witness.

Fiona Hill, a career expert on Russia, and David Holmes, a State Department official in Kiev who was a late addition to the probe, are capping an intense week of testimony.

The impeachment inquiry focuses on allegations that Mr. Trump sought investigations of former vice-president Joe Biden and his son in return for $US391 million in US military aid ($576 million), and a White House visit the new Ukrainian President wanted that would demonstrate his backing from the West.

Mr Holmes said he realized “those events potentially bore on the question of whether the President did, in fact, have knowledge that those senior officials were using the levers of our diplomatic power” to push Ukraine to investigate his rivals.

NASA is preparing to test a prototype of its robot (BRUIE) in Antarctica’s sea ice with hopes that the rover will then be sent to other planets where it will gather samples and take pictures while searching for alien life, as scientists envision that one day the submersible will be sent to Jupiter’s moon Europa, which reportedly has more water than all of the Earth’s oceans and is considered one of the highest priority targets in the search for extraterrestrial life.

 Most submersibles have a challenging time investigating this area, as ocean currents might cause them to crash, or they would waste too much power maintaining position”, according to Andy Klesh, the lead engineer on BRUIE.

Getting the rover to work on Saturn’s moon Enceladus and Jupiter’s moon Europa, which scientists assume have vast amounts of water and hence may have signs of life, will be an extremely complicated task.

President Trump blasted the “human scum” who launched impeachment proceedings against him, following another session of problematic testimony into his suspect deal-making with Ukraine, by taking to Twitter to blast the proceedings at the same time as Fiona Hill, a Russia expert and former White House adviser, and David Holmes, a senior staffer at the US Embassy in Ukraine, gave testimony on Capitol Hill.

The 45th president lashed out at Adam Schiff, the Democrat leading the impeachment inquiry in Congress, and urged fellow Republicans to stiffen their resolve against what he termed abuses of the impeachment process against him.

“Corrupt politician Adam Schiff’s lies are growing by the day,” Mr.Trump said.

“Keep fighting tough, Republicans, you are dealing with human scum who have taken Due Process and all of the Republican Party’s rights away from us during the most unfair hearings in American History.”
