Smuggled pangolins have been found to carry viruses closely related to the one sweeping the world, and now scientists say the sale of the animals in wildlife markets should be strictly prohibited to minimize the risk of future outbreaks.

Pangolins are the most-commonly illegally trafficked mammal, used both as food and in traditional medicine, and a recently research published paper  caution scientists that these animals requires caution, suggesting close surveillance of wild pangolins is needed to understand their role in the risk of future transmission to humans, and despite confirmation that they carry viruses closely related to the one behind Covid-19 (a virus known as SARS-CoV-2), exactly how the
virus jumped from wild animals to humans remains a mystery. The horseshoe bat and now the pangolin have both been implicated, but
the precise sequence of events is unknown.

In another related news, some 3.3m Americans filed jobless claims last week – more than four times the previous record, the figure was released after the US Senate passed a  trillion stimulus bill, including 2000 for most adults, at times confirmed cases in the US near 70,000, with at least 1,050 deaths.

Barr.

Maduro Moros, Cabello Rondón, Carvajal Barrios, Alcalá Cordones, Marín Arango, and Hernández Solarte have each been charged with: (1) participating in a narco-terrorism conspiracy, which carries a 20-year mandatory minimum sentence and a maximum of life in prison; (2) conspiring to import cocaine into the United States, which carries a 10-year mandatory minimum sentence and a maximum of life in prison; (3) using and carrying machine guns and destructive devices during and in relation to, and possessing machine guns and destructive devices in furtherance of, the narco-terrorism and cocaine-importation conspiracies, which carries a 30-year mandatory minimum sentence and a maximum of life in prison; and (4) conspiring to use and carry machine guns and destructive devices during and in relation to, and to possess machine guns and destructive devices in furtherance of, the narco-terrorism and cocaine-importation conspiracies, which carries a maximum sentence of life in prison.  The potential mandatory minimum and maximum sentences in this case are prescribed by Congress and provided here for informational purposes only, as any sentencing of the defendants will be determined by the a judge.

In a much- brighter piece of news, an ICE HSI agent, and his  family, save man in danger of drowning, hypothermia, during boating trip, as Special Agent Steven M.,his wife Bobbi, sons Hunter, 17, and Chance, 13, pose for a family photo, March 23, before taking off on a family boating trip to the Strait of Juan de Fuca, where they later saved a man in danger of drowning.

Mike MacEvitt was working off the coast of Edmonds early this week when high winds and rough seas caused the derelict sailboat he and his coworker were towing to come unhitched. As Mike was attempting to reestablish the tow line, the rocking of both boats caused him to fall into the treacherous waters. His coworker successfully placed a tow line under Mike, but was unable to pull him aboard, so he quickly made an emergency call to the Coast Guard to ask for help. Steven M., whose last name has been withheld because of the nature of his job, frequently monitors emergency channels and made the lifesaving
decision to rush to assist Mike.

To give a feeling of how important it is to prevent US sliding into a replay of yet another 1929 depression, it’s been described as the largest rescue package in American history, with the US Federal Reserve’s James Bullard predicting the unemployment rate in America could hit 30 per cent, compared with the unemployment peaked at 25 per cent during the Great Depression, as George Sorbane predicted the crash in his book “The Endless Beginning”.
