In a letter to the Government Accountability Office(GAO), a large group of congressional lawmakers blamed Biden’s Inauguration Day executive order sweep for allowing the sudden spike to develop:
“The president’s actions directly contributed to this unfortunate, yet entirely avoidable, scenario,” the letter states. “They are also a blatant violation of federal law and infringes on Congress’ constitutional power of the purse.”
“Prompt action to end these violations is required to restore order at the border,” officials added.
The coalition of lawmakers noted in the letter that Biden’s decision to freeze some $1.4 billion for border wall construction is a violation of the Impoundment Control Act (ICA). The specified legislation outlines a set of procedures that the president or other government officials must follow if they seek to reduce, delay or eliminate funding for certain programs.

Ms. Meng has been under house arrest in Vancouver and is fighting extradition to the US, charged with lying to American banks about Huawei’s alleged dealings with Iran, in violation of US sanctions, as both she and Huawei deny any wrongdoing.
Mr. Garneau told a news conference on Wednesday that Mr. Spavor was scheduled to appear in court on Friday and Mr. Kovrig on Monday, according to the notification from Chinese authorities to the embassy in Beijing. It is unclear how long the legal process might take.

Several African countries have banned the use of the AstraZeneca vaccine, citing possible side effects, a move following similar measures by European states — but it could retard hinder Africa’s vaccine rollout, as some countries are now also discontinuing the use of the AstraZeneca vaccine amid concerns over potential side-effects, despite positive statements when more than 1.7 million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine arrived in the Democratic Republic of Congo, with Health Minister Eteni Longondo being personally on hand to receive them:
“The vaccinations will enable us to protect and save lives. We must encourage the target population to be vaccinated,” the United Nations quoted him as saying.
“We are waiting for the conclusion of the research that is being done by the Europeans and also by our own scientific committee and then we will make a final decision,” Longondo clarified to reporters.
“Maybe in two or three weeks, we will have these conclusions.”
