A federal court entered a permanent injunction halting a purported “ozone therapy” center in Dallas, Texas, from offering unproven treatments for corona-virus disease (COVID-19), the Department of Justice announced today.

In a civil complaint and accompanying court papers filed in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas, the Department of Justice alleged that the defendants, Purity Health and Wellness Centers and one of the firm’s principals, Jean Juanita Allen, fraudulently promoted so-called ozone therapy as a treatment for COVI-19.  The defendants agreed to be bound by a permanent injunction barring them from representing that ozone could be used to treat or cure COVI-19. The order was entered by U.S. District Judge Sam A. Lindsay in Dallas:

“The Department of Justice will not stand by and permit the fraudulent promotion of supposed COVI-19 treatments that do no good and that could be harmful,We are working with law enforcement and agency partners to stop those who attempt to profit by selling useless products during this pandemic”, said Assistant Attorney General Jody Hunt of the Justice Department’s Civil Division.

NHS England medical director Stephen Powis said they had become aware of reports of rare, severe illness in children:

We have asked our experts to look into this as a matter of urgency”, he said about alert issued by NHS England, that there was ” a growing concern” that a corona virus-related inflammatory syndrome is emerging in children in the UK or that there may be another, as yet unidentified, infection linked to these cases.

These young patients of varying ages were extremely ill, exhibiting similar features to toxic shock syndrome, which can include a high temperature, low blood pressure, a rash and difficulty breathing, while some also had gastrointestinal symptoms – tummy pain, vomiting or diarrhea – and inflammation of the heart, as well as abnormal blood test results.

Kenneth Warren Rhule, 26 of Bothell, in Washington’s  rural Snohomish County   was arrested March 10 on an eight-count complaint charging him with operating an illegal money exchange business involving bitcoin, and made his initial appearance on the criminal complaint in U.S. District Court in Seattle, being charged with conducting an unlicensed money transmitting business, five counts of laundering of monetary instruments and one count of conspiracy to produce and distribute marijuana.
Rhule came to the attention of law enforcement in April 2018, as someone operating an unlicensed bitcoin exchange business under the name “Gimacut93.” At various locations – primarily Starbucks coffee shops – in Western Washington, Rhule met repeatedly with undercover agents posing as criminals who needed to launder funds. Through their conversations the undercover agents made it seem they were laundering money related to human trafficking activities. Rhule agreed to exchange bitcoin for cash apparently knowing the cash was the proceeds of criminal activity. In fact, Rhule offered the undercover agents advice on virtual currency and how to hide the source of the funds. Rhule asked the agents no questions as required under the “know your customer” rule.
