Even though Israel’s Iron Dome air defense system is fairly effective at intercepting rockets launched from Gaza into Israeli territory, a recent incident in which a Syrian anti-air missile overshot its target and fell into central Israel has revealed glaring holes in the country’s air defense net, after Defense Forces reported an alert had been triggered late Friday night in Kissufim, a kibbutz roughly a mile from the border with the Gaza Strip, following three rockets being fired from the Gaza Strip, with only one of which was intercepted by the Iron Dome air defense system. The other two are reported to have landed in open terrain, causing neither injuries nor damage. The IDF later confirmed these reports, noting the two rockets not intercepted both exploded near the border fence.

The IDF later said it shelled a Hamas position in Gaza in response to the attack, the explosions from which were reported by Gazans.
A few hours later, at roughly 1:52 am local time, the IDF reported sirens sounding for a second time in southern Israel. The Jerusalem Post said two rockets were fired further north, toward the kibbutz of Be’eri and moshav of Kfar Maimo.

 After a police employee was stabbed to death at a station southwest of Paris by a suspected Islamist extremist from Tunisia who was then shot dead by the security forces, French prosecutors opened a terror inquiry leading to the detention of  three people connection with the attack, as President Emmanuel Macron said France would never give in to “Islamist terrorism” after the terror hit in Rambouillet, a tranquil commuter town about 40 miles from Paris, which revived the trauma of a spate of deadly attacks last year.

France’s national anti-terrorism prosecutors said they had opened a terror investigation, also involving the DGSI domestic intelligence service, into the murder of a person holding public authority. Three people from the suspect’s “entourage” were detained on Friday, according to a judicial source.

4…………>  US Carrier Of Afghanistan: Support Of Withdrawal

The Pentagon has deployed B-52 bombers to the Middle East and has prolonged the presence of an aircraft carrier in the region to support the withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan,  as US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin decided to keep the USS Eisenhower in the US Central Command region for an extended period, in the wake of President Joe Biden’s decision to withdraw all US forces from Afghanistan by September:

“And he has approved the addition of some long range bombers to be deployed to the region. Two of those B-52s have arrived in the region,” spokesman Kirby said.

The Stratofortress bombers are usually based in Qatar, where the US military has an important base.
