Akay Ullah, 28, of Brooklyn, New York, and a lawful permanent resident from Bangladesh, was convicted today on all six counts of the Indictment, which charged him with offenses related to the detonation and attempted detonation of a bomb in a subway station near the New York Port Authority Bus Terminal in New York City on Dec. 11, 2017. Ullah, who faces a possible sentence of life in prison, is scheduled to be sentenced on April 5, 2019, by the Honorable Richard J. Sullivan, who presided over the one-week trial.

Assistant Attorney General for National Security John C. Demers and U.S. Attorney Geoffrey S. Berman for the Southern District of New York made the announcement.

“Less than a year ago, Ullah constructed a pipe bomb and detonated it in a mass transit hub in the heart of New York City to harm and terrorize as many people as possible, all on behalf of ISIS. His crime reminds us that the threat of radical Islamist terrorism remains real,” said Assistant Attorney General Demers. “This guilty verdict holds Ullah accountable, and he faces a potential life term in federal prison for his crimes. I want to thank all the agents and prosecutors whose outstanding work made this result possible.”

“Late last year, Akayed Ullah detonated a bomb during the bustle of morning rush hour under the Port Authority Bus Terminal,” said U.S. Attorney Berman. “Ullah’s sinister purpose was to harm and terrorize as many innocent people in his path as possible, by using deadly violence to make a political statement. Ullah’s conviction by a unanimous jury of New Yorkers falls on Election Day, which fittingly underscores the core principles of American democracy and spirit: Americans engage in the political process through votes, not violence. Today, Ullah stands convicted, he faces a potential life sentence, and his purpose failed. New York City remains a shining symbol of freedom and hope.”

Two former commodities traders of a New York, New York-based financial services firm have pleaded guilty for their participation in a $60 million commodities fraud and spoofing conspiracy that was perpetrated through the U.S. commodities markets. One of the traders also asked liable for his participation in a second commodities fraud and spoofing conspiracy at another financial services firm based in Chicago, Illinois.

Krishna Mohan, 33, of New York, New York, pleaded guilty today to one count of conspiracy to engage in wire fraud, commodities fraud, and spoofing. Sentencing is scheduled for Feb. 28, 2019, before U.S. District Judge Gray H. Miller of the Southern District of Texas.

Kamaldeep Gandhi, 36, of Chicago, pleaded guilty on Nov. 2 to two counts of conspiracy to engage in wire fraud, commodities fraud, and spoofing. Sentencing is scheduled for Feb. 22, 2019, before U.S. District Judge Ewing Werlein Jr. of the Southern District of Texas.

As part of their pleas, Gandhi and Mohan admitted that, from March 2012 to March 2014, they conspired with Yuchun “Bruce” Mao and others at the first firm (Trading Firm A) to mislead the markets for E-Mini S&P 500 and E‑Mini NASDAQ 100 futures contracts traded on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) and E-Mini Dow futures contracts traded on the Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT). Gandhi and Mohan further admitted that they and their co-conspirators placed thousands of orders that they did not intend to execute, or “spoof orders,” in order to obtain executions of other orders, or “primary orders,” at better prices, quantities and/or times than otherwise possible, to the benefit of the co-conspirators and Trading Firm A. Gandhi and Mohan further admitted that the United States has calculated that the scheme resulted in market losses of over $60 million.

The Democrats took control of the House, having gained more than the 23 seats they needed. It is the first time the party has held the majority in the lower house of Congress for eight years. The loss of the House will make it harder for President Trump to push his policies forward.

SANTA RITA, Guam (NNS)– Naval ships, aircraft, and personnel from India, Japan, and the United States will participate in exercise Malabar 2018, June 7 through 16 off the coast of Guam.

Malabar 2018 is the first time the exercise has been conducted off the coast of Guam, and the latest in a continuing series of exercises that has grown in scope and complexity over the years to address the variety of shared threats to maritime security.

Malabar began in 1992 and this year marks the 22nd rendition of the exercise. The exercise will feature both ashore and at-sea training. While ashore in Guam, training will include subject matter expert and professional exchanges on carrier strike group operations, maritime patrol and reconnaissance operations, surface and anti-submarine warfare, medical operations, damage control, helicopter operations and visit, board, search and seizure (VBSS) operations.

The at-sea portions will be conducted in the Philippine Sea and are designed to advance participating nations’ military-to-military coordination and capacity to plan and execute tactical operations in a multinational environment. Events planned during the at-sea portions include liaison officer professional exchanges and embarks, a photo exercise, submarine familiarization, high-value unit and air defense exercises, medical evacuation drills, surface warfare exercises, communications exercises, search and rescue exercises; helicopter cross-deck evolutions, underway replenishments, gunnery exercises, VBSS exercises and anti-submarine warfare.

Participants from the U.S. Navy in the at-sea phase of the exercise include the aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76), the Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruisers USS Antietam (CG 54) and USS Chancellorsville (CG 62), the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Benfold (DDG 65) and a P-8A Poseidon aircraft.

“Normalizing relations is something that I would expect to do, hope to do, once everything is complete. We would certainly hope to do that,” Trump said in the Rose Garden, adding that he would “certainly” invite North Korean leader Kim Jong-un to the U.S. if next week’s summit in Singapore goes well, but added he is “totally prepared to walk away” should progress not be achieved. 

Addressing reporters at the White House alongside Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe who stressed the importance for Tokyo of releasing the 12 Japanese citizens held hostage in the North, Mr. Trump said he thinks the invite “would be well-received” by Comrade Un, but insisted that the North must denuclearize if it wishes to receive any sort of relief from international sanctions. 

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo later said Kim, whom he has met with twice amid a flurry of diplomatic activity in preparation for the summit, has indicated to him that he is “prepared to denuclearize.” 

“We’re moving forward, we’re focused on the important things,” Pompeo told reporters at the White House, stressing that the fact Kim and Trump “are coming to the table shows that the two sides are very serious”.

Since it landed at the Gale Crater in 2012, NASA Curiosity rover has been recording methane emissions in the area, with three Mars years’ worth of data shows that along with spikes in of the gas, levels swing between 0.24 and 0.65 parts per billion, peaking in the northern hemisphere summer. 

“For the first time we have something that we can get a handle on,” said Dr. Webster of NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory. 

“You’re seeing a factor of three change in the methane in the atmosphere of Mars. That’s a big change,” Dr. Webster said. 

The latest data shows huge swings in the level of methane in the atmosphere as the seasons’ change and new types of organic molecules capable of preserving life just beneath its surface, but it could also be produced by non-biological processes such as chemical reactions in rocks, or the breakdown of organic matter in dust delivered by comets or meteors, by UV radiation.

We have to wait and see if new Fed chair Powell will attempt to destroy Eurasian block by sending gold prices below 1000, despite the fact both Russia and China have been buying their whole gold production in local gold backed currency instead of money printing machines. In other words, US has lost controls of the precious metals complex, and with Trump’s infrastructure and tax cut campaign the National debt will soon be at, or over 30 trillion dollars, since D.C. swamp alligators have no intention dropping their pet projects. Since the consumer did not return to correct the transaction and collect his money, Mr. He contacted the local media and the police to help identify the customer, since no one came back to collect the money.


A customer named Hongwei Han apparently contacted local media and the police, and then the whole riddle came apart at the seems:

“I didn’t receive any text notifications, I really didn’t realize. Yesterday I received a call from an Alipay customer service officer, and they said there was something wrong with my balance,” he admitted.

“This is a very exciting event and to our knowledge, it is the largest wave ever recorded in the southern hemisphere,” MetOcean Solutions senior oceanographer Dr. Tom Durrant said about an enormous 78-foot ocean wave recorded by a solar-powered buoy moored near New Zealand’s Campbell Island. 


“[This] storm is the perfect example of waves generated by the easterly passage of a deep low-pressure system with associated wind speeds exceeding 65 knots. Such storms are frequent and can occur at any time of the year, which differs from the high-latitude northern hemisphere storms that only occur in winter,” he said, adding that the waves may reach California coast in about a week.

A federal grand jury returned an indictment against Akshay Aiyer, a former currency trader at a major U.S. bank, for conspiring to fix prices and rig bids and offers in Central and Eastern European, Middle Eastern, and African (CEEMEA) currencies, which were generally traded against the U.S. dollar and the euro.

The Department of Justice also charged six major banks in the ongoing investigation into antitrust and fraud crimes in the FX market. On May 20, 2015, Citicorp, JPMorgan Chase & Co., Barclays PLC, and The Royal Bank of Scotland PLC pleaded guilty at the parent level and agreed to pay, collectively, more than $2.5 billion in criminal fines for their participation in an antitrust conspiracy to manipulate the price of the euro-U.S dollar currency pair. Additionally, UBS AG pleaded guilty to manipulating the London Interbank Offered Rate (LIBOR) and other benchmark interest rates and agreed to pay a $203 million criminal penalty after breaching it’s December 2012 non-prosecution agreement resolving the LIBOR investigation. On January 25, 2018, BNP Paribas USA, Inc., the former employer of Jason Katz, pleaded guilty to violating the Sherman Act based on its participation in a CEEMEA-related conspiracy and agreed to pay a $90 million fine. 

“As today’s indictment demonstrates, the Antitrust Division remains committed to holding individuals accountable for anticompetitive conduct that violates the integrity of global financial markets,” said Assistant Attorney General Makan Delrahim of the Department of Justice’s Antitrust Division.
