Following a two-week trial, a federal jury in Denver, Colorado, has convicted a California man named Kenneth Brewington, 55, of Corona, California, on multiple charges for his role in an investment scheme in which he falsely told investors that he was a billionaire who could access certain financing, including hundreds of millions in cash in an overseas bank account, in exchange for up-front fees.
He was convicted of one count of conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud, one count of mail fraud, five counts of wire fraud, one count of conspiracy to commit money laundering, one count of laundering monetary instruments, and two counts of engaging in monetary transactions in property derived from unlawful activity.
“Kenneth Brewington and his co-conspirators deceived investors by falsely claiming to have hundreds of millions of dollars in cash in an overseas bank account as part of a criminal scheme to steal the investors’ hard-earned money,” said Acting Assistant Attorney General Cronan. “The Department of Justice is dedicated to working with our law enforcement partners to identify and prosecute people who are involved in fraudulent investment schemes, and to pursuing justice for the victims of those crimes.”

The unnamed American citizen assigned to the consulate in Guangzhou had reported a variety of “physical symptoms” dating from late 2017 to April this year, the US embassy in Beijing said in an email.
The worker was sent to the United States for further evaluation, where “the clinical findings of this evaluation matched mild traumatic brain injury (MTBI),” the embassy said.

Art restorer Jiri Lauterkranc has been studying a painting called “La Crau with a View of Montmajour” for three years after his team found it by using a combination of a specialist X-ray scanner and traditional methods to identify the painting.
Mr. Lauterkranc believes the painting is a genuine Vincent Van Gogh and is sending evidence to the Van Gogh Foundation for final verification.
