Two Texas men, identified as  Kevin Ombisi, 31, and Eric Russell Jr., 35, both of Katy, were charged in a complaint unsealed today for their alleged participation in a drug distribution conspiracy perpetrated over the Darknet, in a filing in the Western District of Tennessee, with Ombisi being charged with one count of conspiracy and one count of unlawful distribution of controlled substances, and Russell charged with one count of conspiracy.

Ombisi and Russell were arrested yesterday and made their initial appearance this afternoon, as the complaint alleges that they used a marketplace on the Darknet and an encrypted messaging service called Wickr to sell pills that were made to resemble the drug branded as Adderall, but the pills were not Adderall, instead they contained methamphetamine.

In conjunction with the arrests, the government seized more than $5 million in assets alleged to be connected to the drug trafficking activity.

BALTIMORE – A federal criminal complaint has been filed charging three men, identified as Olakitan Oluwalade (“Olaki”), age 22, of Windsor Mill, Maryland; Olaki’s cousin, Odunayo Baba Oluwalade (“Baba”), age 25, of Windsor Mill; and Kelly Lamont Williams, age 22, of Owings Mills, Maryland, on the federal charge of conspiracy to commit wire fraud in connection with a scheme to allegedly sell purported COVID-19 vaccines. The criminal complaint was filed on February 9, 2021 and was unsealed today upon the defendants’ arrests. They all are charged in the criminal complaint for allegedly fraudulently replicating the website of a biotech company that has an authorized COVID-19 vaccine to perpetrate the scheme.

U.S. Attorney Hur stated, “My office and the entire law enforcement community are committed to bringing to justice fraudsters who are preying on citizens during this unprecedented public health crisis. We will also continue our outreach efforts to make the public aware of scams and frauds. I urge citizens to remain vigilant and if you see something that doesn’t seem right, please report it. Don’t become a victim.”

Seven Charlotte, North Carolina tax return preparers pleaded guilty to conspiracy to defraud the United States by preparing and filing false tax returns, according to Principal Deputy Assistant General Richard E. Zuckerman of the Justice Department’s Tax Division, U.S. Attorney R. Andrew Murray for the Western District of North Carolina, and Special Agent in Charge Matthew D. Line of the Internal Revenue Service-Criminal Investigation (IRS-CI).

Joseph Octave and Vonyeda Carson pleaded guilty on Jan. 12, 2021, while Melissa Greene, Natisha Holloman, Kimberly Joline, Whitney Vargas-Medrano and Wendia Courtois pleaded guilty earlier in 2020. In addition to the conspiracy charge, Octave pleaded guilty to one count of aiding and assisting in the filing of false tax returns.

Authorities say that it could be the biggest darknet marketplace bust, a real darknet platform with half a million users, trading drugs, counterfeit money, stolen credit card data, anonymous SIM cards and malware, as the suspected operator was arrested in Islamic Merkeldom of Germany, and prosecutors in the cities of Koblenz and Oldenburg said that they had shut down what was “probably the largest illegal marketplace on the Darknet” code-named “DarkMarket” and arrested the man believed to operate it near Germany’s border with Denmark.

The detained man, determined to be “DarkMarket’s” operator, is a 34-year-old Australian national.

US agencies like the FBI, DEA narcotics law enforcement division and IRS tax authority all contributed to the investigation, along with police from Australia, Britain, Denmark, Switzerland, Ukraine and Moldova, with Europol playing a “coordinating role.”

“A total of at least 320,000 transactions were carried out via the marketplace, with more than 4,650 Bitcoin and 12,800 Monero – two of the most common cryptocurrencies – changing hands,” Oldenburg authorities added.

At the time of its closure, “DarkMarket” had more than 2,400 vendors.

German Research Center for Geosciences (GFZ) reported that a quake was registered at a depth of about 6 miles, following the September 2019, Indonesia’s deadly earthquake that left at least 20 people dead, with the latest one occurring on Wednesday (GMT+7) being a 5.7-magnitude earthquake that had hit the province of Irian Jaya, and  there have not been any reports about victims or damages caused by the quake so far.

Indonesia is frequently hit by earthquakes due to the region’s seismic activity. In September 2019, a 6.5-magnitude earthquake shook the country’s province of Maluku, causing heavy casualties.

LOS ANGELES – As part of an international effort to disrupt narcotics trafficking on the darknet, special agents with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and members of the Los Angeles Joint Criminal Opioid and Darknet Enforcement (JCODE) Task Force announced charges Tuesday against a key member of a Southern California drug trafficking organization who allegedly distributed methamphetamine and other illicit narcotics to thousands of customers in at least 35 states and numerous countries around the world.

Andres Bermudez, 37, of Palmdale, allegedly supplied methamphetamine to the “Stealthgod” crew, was named in a criminal complaint filed Sept. 18. An affidavit in this case outlines how Bermudez allegedly supplied methamphetamine to the “Stealthgod” drug trafficking organization and details negotiations involving transactions of 30 pounds and 40 pounds of methamphetamine. Bermudez is currently a fugitive sought by federal authorities.

Earlier this year, five other members of the narcotics ring were arrested on federal charges, and authorities made substantial seizures of narcotics and cryptocurrency.

“Together with our partners, we remain at the forefront of combating narcotics trafficking, financial crimes and illicit activities purveyed by online black markets,” said David A. Prince, special agent in charge for ICE’s HSI in Los Angeles.

“We have proven, once again, that these illicit activities on the darknet will not be tolerated in the United States. While criminal operators may continue to grow the reach of their businesses through these dark web marketplaces, the fact is that no matter how or where these crimes are committed, nothing is beyond the reach of the law.”
This case is part of Operation DisrupTor, which builds on the success of prior actions targeting darknet vendors, including the takedown of Wall Street Market, which was one of the world’s largest dark web marketplaces. Following the Wall Street Market takedown in May 2019 and the filing of federal charges in Los Angeles against the administrators, law enforcement in the United States and Europe obtained intelligence that allowed them to identify darknet drug traffickers.

“These online black market websites use a variety of technologies, including the Tor network and other encryption technologies, to ensure that communications and transactions are shielded from interception and monitoring,” according to court documents filed last week in Los Angeles.

“A famous dark web marketplace, Wall Street Market, operated similar to legitimate commercial websites such as Amazon and eBay, but offered illicit goods and services” in exchange for virtual currencies, such as Bitcoin.

Rodney Allen, 43, of Beaufort, South Carolina, was sentenced today in federal court in Jacksonville, Florida, to 24 months in prison. Allen previously pleaded guilty to one count of intimidating and interfering with the employees of an abortion clinic by making a bomb threat and one count of making false statements to a Special Agent with the FBI.

“The Department of Justice will prosecute anyone who threatens to blow up people and places to the fullest extent of the law,” said Assistant Attorney General Eric Dreiband.

“These kinds of ghastly criminal threats unlawfully and unjustly injure innocent people. Violence and threats of violence have no place in this country.”

“Threats of violence to healthcare facilities or their employees are serious matters,” said U.S. Attorney Maria Chapa Lopez for the Middle District of Florida.

“Thanks to the quick response and diligence by our local and federal law enforcement partners, this case was investigated thoroughly and brought to a successful conclusion.”

According to court documents, on Aug. 29, 2019, Allen called the clinic in Jacksonville, Florida, and said that someone was coming to blow it up. Allen made several other calls to the clinic that day in an attempt to interfere with its ability to provide services. Employees recognized Allen’s voice and were concerned that he would do something desperate, so they enlisted the help of a Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office officer to search the property. The FBI obtained toll records and subscriber information for the number used to make the bomb threat to the clinic and positively identified Allen as the caller. In a voluntary and surreptitiously recorded interview with the FBI, Allen falsely denied calling the clinic and stating that someone was coming to blow it up.

Louisville Metro Police Department chief Robert Schroeder said that a suspect has been taken into custody after a shooting, that led to at least two police officers with injuries following protest of  Breonna Taylor’s death:

“Both officers are currently undergoing treatment… One is alert and stable. The other officer is currently undergoing surgery and stable. We have one suspect in custody”, he said.
The shooting of the two officers prompted a reaction from US President Donald Trump, who tweeted that he was “praying” for them and expressed his readiness to offer help from the federal government.

​​Following an initial report that one LMPD officer has been shot, the FBI announced in a statement that it had responded to the shooting.

“The FBI Louisville SWAT team has responded to an LMPD officer being shot and will continue to assist in the investigation”, the statement said.
