The number of cases in Russia has been exploding by leaps and bounds daily, as four million infection cases are confirmed worldwide, while Wuhan, where the virus originated, records its first case in a month. While the numbers of cases have dropped significantly in Australia and New Zealand — and even in virus hot spots Spain and Italy — others such as Russia and Brazil have recorded large increases in new cases.

Worldwide cases hit 3 million on April 28, 2 million on April 15 and 1 million on April 3, meaning it has taken 12 or 13 days to increase by each million cases.

Nearly 280,000 people worldwide have died from COVID-19 with the United States accounts for almost a third of confirmed cases and over a quarter of deaths.

Russia has overtaken Italy and the UK to have the third-highest number of coronavirus cases in the world, with more than half of the country’s deaths,  and 221,344 cases are in Moscow, as its

mayor of Moscow has said up to 300,000 people in the capital could be infected. The total number of infections is at 221,344, meaning it only trails Spain and the US for infections, after the state enforced a massive testing program under which there has been more than 5.6 million tests conducted.
