2…………….> Immigration Fraud On Alien Farmworkers: LA Recruitment Firm
.
SANTA ANA, Calif. – The owner of a Rancho Cucamonga-based farm labor recruiting company was sentenced today to 12 months in federal prison for his role in an immigration fraud scheme that illegally charged Mexican nationals thousands of dollars to obtain H-2A work visas and additional money for expenses once they arrived in the United States.
Jorge Vasquez, 60, of Fontana, the owner of H-2A Placement Services, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Josephine L. Staton, who also ordered Vasquez to pay $135,389 in restitution. Vasquez pleaded guilty in June 2019 to one count of conspiracy and one count of aiding and abetting fraud in foreign labor contracting.
Vasquez and co-defendant Melquiades Jacinto Lara, 64, of Santa Paula, the owner of J&D Harvesting, which contracted workers to farms in Ventura County, conspired to commit mail fraud, false swearing in immigration matters, and fraud in foreign labor contracting.

3…………> American Airlines Wings Clipped: Thousands Of Jobs Lost Due To COVID-19 Slump?
.
American Airlines, the world’s biggest airline announced it will cut 19,000 jobs in October when a government wage support scheme extended to airlines during the pandemic comes to an end, a move that would leave its workforce 30% smaller than it was in March, as other carriers have warned of similarly large cuts amid a slump in air travel.
United last month warned that as many as 36,000 jobs are at risk, and Germany’s Lufthansa may cut 22,000 positions, while British Airways is slashing 12,000 jobs, with the reductions come when the impact of the pandemic will cause airline losses of more than $84bn globally this year.
American had received $5.8bn from the payroll aid program. It recently announced plans to suspend service to 15 smaller airports in the US due to low travel demand.
“We must prepare for the possibility that our nation’s leadership will not be able to find a way to further support aviation professionals and the service we provide, especially to smaller communities,” chief executive Doug Parker and president Robert Isom said in a message to staff.

4…………> Beer Capital Munich COVID-19 Vaccine: Stop Drinking If Cases Rise
.
Munich will partially ban alcohol if coronavirus cases reach a certain threshold, courtesy of an uptick in infections in the city, often known as the Islamic Merkeldom of Germany’s beer haven, after the Bavarian capital reported 30.92 new COVID-19 cases per 100,000 people over the last week, forcing the annual Oktoberfest beer festival to be called off this year due to coronavirus concerns.
“The decision was difficult for us all,” said Munich Mayor Dieter Reiter, a Social Democrat.
“But in times of a pandemic, it is first and foremost a matter of protecting the population and avoiding, as far as possible, even more burdensome measures.”

5…………> ‘The Tale Of Two Economies’: US Stocks vs Unemployment Checks
.
“We really now have two economies: the real one – I use the word real because it is what involves the vast majority of our people – and then the rich people’s alternative reality, with its alternative facts. They live in alternative housing and alternative neighborhoods. They have alternative incomes and all the rest, and what you’re seeing is how a society organized that way – where the top 1% are the dominant political, economic, cultural actors gathering into their hands the bulk of the wealth and then the power – that’s what they do. Even if they are confronted with a pandemic that affects us all, they don’t react like we’re all in it together,” said Mr. Richard Wolff, a professor Emeritus of Economics at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and the founder of the organization Democracy at Work whose latest book is “Understanding Socialism.”
“If you’re in the 1%, the most important part of your wealth is your portfolio of stocks and bonds. That’s a much bigger number than your annual income, even if you’re very rich,” he added.
The S&P and Nasdaq indices closed up by 57% and 72%, respectively, compared to their lows on March 23, reaching record highs as daily US COVID-19 case counts decreased, as data by Johns Hopkins University shows that on Monday, around 38,000 new cases were confirmed in the US, and no day has exceeded 50,000 new cases since mid-August.
