2…………> Recovery Sites: US Air Force

QUANG NGAI PROVINCE, Vietnam (AFNS) — The day Army Sgt. 1st Class Tommy Murphy died is still engrained into his daughter’s mind.

It was April 7, 2001, and Tycoria Johnson was just 9 years old. On that Saturday, Murphy, along with six other American service members and nine Vietnamese counterparts, departed on an MI-17 helicopter to investigate a potential recovery site.
They were part of a Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency mission in search of the remains of fallen service members from the Vietnam War.
Her father was a team sergeant, she said, who supervised and did much of the planning for the team.

But as the weather worsened, the helicopter veered off course and collided with a mountain hidden by clouds in central Vietnam. No one survived.

Johnson, now a senior airman based in Japan, recently volunteered for a joint mission with DPAA, where her father once worked as a mortuary affairs specialist.

“He would talk about his missions a lot,” she said, recalling the videos he would show her of people digging at excavation sites. “I knew that he enjoyed it and I think he would be surprised that I actually signed up to do it.”

On this #MemorialDay, watch and listen as members of the #USNavy Ceremonial Guard use poetry in motion and words to share the meaning behind today’s holiday.

Happy Memorial Day! Those who died for our great country would be very happy and proud of how well our country is doing today. Best economy in decades, lowest unemployment numbers for Blacks and Hispanics EVER (& women in 18years), rebuilding our Military and so much more. Nice!

5…………> Applied Global Warming: Oman

The cyclone Mekunu with wind gusts of 125 mi/h dumped three years’ worth of rainfall in a single day and leaving 13 people dead in the Gulf country of Oman and neighbouring Yemen, deluging a major city leaving eight people are still missing.

The “extremely severe” cyclone left holiday destinations with empty tourist beaches, littered with debris and foam from the churning Arabian Sea.

The Port of Salalah remained closed, its cranes secured against the pounding rain and winds.

1…………> Down With Gov. Jerry Brown: Carlsbad

Carlsbad’s City Council plunged into the national “sanctuary state” issue by voting 4-1 to back the federal government’s lawsuit against California, joining three cities, National City, Chula Vista, and San Diego to support the federal law.

It was also agreed that the city should file a legal brief “when appropriate” in support of the federal action against the state’s Senate Bill 54, which prohibits local law enforcement officials from investigating arrestees’ immigration status or reporting that status to federal authorities.

“The weighing in on this is purely political, and it’s divisive,” said Councilwoman Cori Schumacher, who voted against the motion.

“Our laws are becoming more difficult to enforce. It takes many agencies working together to keep us safe,”  said Mayor Matt Hall, while Glenn Bernard, a urged the city to support the federal government, and compared sanctuary cities to the South in the Civil War.

“I cannot see the difference between a sanctuary state and a secessionist state,” Bernard said.

2…………> Get On It Or Else: Trump To DOJ

Under pressure from President Donald Trump, the Justice Department and FBI have agreed to investigate “any irregularities” in the FBI’s tactics involving the Trump campaign, suggesting that if it has planted an undercover informant in his 2016 campaign, a bubbling scandal “[If so, this is] bigger than Watergate!”

The President also said that he would formally demand the Justice Department probe the matter and determine whether “if any such demands or requests were made by people within the Obama Administration”, as Representative Devin Nunes, a key Trump ally, has sought information on the alleged FBI informant, suggesting there may have been more than one person feeding information to the FBI.

“Deep State” exponent Senator Dianne Feinstein disagreed:

“The Justice Department is not an arm of the White House, it is independent and serves the American people. Its job is to follow the facts and the law. Law enforcement investigations must be initiated and carried out free from political interference.”

3…………> Israel’s New Hound Dog: F35

The US-made F-35 stealth fighter has seen its first ever combat action, flying in an operation for the Israeli air force.

Israel’s air force chief showed an image of F-35 jets, code-named in Hebrew “Adir”(Mighty), flying over Beirut, Lebanon, and said the planes had “already attacked twice on two different fronts”, a confirmation to acquire the single-seat fighter, it has received nine of the 50 F-35s, and it has so far ordered up to 75.

The plane has been heavily criticized over its price of nearly $200 million dollars,
lack of maneuverability and cockpit visibility issues.

4…………> Counterfeit Ring: Busted

Laredo, Texas ICE agents seized nearly 79,000 counterfeit items that included apparel and consumer electronics from luxury and sporting trademark designers such as Hermes, Louis Vuitton, Adidas, Nike, Apple, Samsung, and Sony, worth more than $16 million.

“Trafficking counterfeit goods pose a triple threat,” said Tim Tubbs, deputy special agent in charge of HSI Laredo. “Counterfeit merchandise wreaks havoc on local economies, threatens the health and safety of the American public, and funds criminal organizations engaged in other illegal activities.”

According to HSI, the trademark-infringed merchandise seized was shipped in large boxes from China to an international cargo terminal located in Laredo, Texas. The boxes were manifested to fictitious Laredo recipients and addresses.

5…………> Hate Crime: Kansas

Adam W. Purinton, of Olathe, Kansas, pleaded guilty in federal court to hate crime and firearm charges for shooting Indian nationals Srinivas Kuchibhotla and Alok Madasani and Kansas resident Ian Grillot at Austins Bar & Grill in Olathe February 2017, admitting crimes for which he pleaded guilty.

“Hate crimes are acts of evil, and the Department of Justice has prioritized their zealous prosecution,” said Acting Associate Attorney General Jesse Panuccio. “In this case, the defendant embarked on a murderous rampage with clear premeditation to kill on the basis of race, color, religion, and national origin. It was a hate crime, and he is being brought to justice. While we cannot ameliorate the irreparable harm to the victims and their families, we hope that securing this guilty plea brings them some measure of closure. And this prosecution sends a message across the nation: hate crimes will not be tolerated.”
