A commutation usually takes the form of a reduced prison term, but does not erase the conviction or imply innocence, and a pardon is an expression of the president’s forgiveness that confers extra privileges, such as restoring the convict’s right to vote. Presidents often grant pardons in their final days of office.

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) launched a billboard campaign today in Asheville, North Carolina, to alert the public of at-large immigration violators who may pose a public safety threat to the community, that led to several of the individuals who were previously arrested or convicted of crimes in the U.S., but released into the community instead of being transferred into ICE custody pursuant to an immigration detainer.
“It’s unfortunate that certain law enforcement agencies refuse to work with ICE to promote public safety by holding criminal aliens accountable and providing justice and closure for their victims,” said Thomas Giles, field office director of ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) in Atlanta, Georgia.

“Sanctuary policies not only undermine the integrity of our nation’s immigration laws; they also shield criminal aliens who prey on the people in their own communities.”

Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who previously sought to delay signing a new COVID relief bill ahead of the November election so that Trump wouldn’t be able to get “his name on a check that goes out,” called on the president to sign the existing bill before Monday to avoid a government shutdown.

PHILADELPHIA – U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) launched a billboard campaign today in Pennsylvania to educate the public about the dangers of non-cooperation policies. The billboards feature at-large immigration violators who may pose a public safety threat. These individuals were previously arrested or convicted of crimes in the U.S., but were released into the community instead of being transferred to ICE custody pursuant to an immigration detainer.

“Too often sanctuary policies limiting cooperation with ICE result in significant public safety concerns,” said Senior Official Performing the Duties of the Director Tony H. Pham. “ICE will continue to enforce immigration laws set forth by Congress through the efforts of the men and women of ICE to remove criminal aliens and making our communities safer.”

The billboards are located at or near:

  • Route 1 north of Old Lincoln Highway
  • Pennsylvania Turnpike Bridge & Wood
  • Walt Whitman Bridge #5
  • Route 130 .3 miles south of Airport Circle
  • North Christopher Columbus Boulevard Arctic Avenue
  • I-276 Pennsylvania Turnpike east of Buck Road

ICE lodges immigration detainers on individuals who have been arrested on local criminal charges and who are suspected of being removable, so that ICE can take custody of that person when he or she is released from local custody. When law enforcement agencies fail to honor immigration detainers and release serious criminal offenders onto the streets, it undermines ICE’s ability to protect public safety and carry out its mission.

Three leaders of one of the world’s most notorious video-game piracy groups, Team Xecuter, identified as Max Louarn, 48, a French national of Avignon, France, Yuanning Chen, 35, a Chinese national of Shenzhen, China, and Gary Bowser, 51, a Canadian national of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, been arrested and are in custody facing charges filed in U.S. District Court in Seattle, charged in a federal indictment unsealed today,  allegeing the defendants were leaders of a criminal enterprise that developed and sold illegal devices that hacked popular videogame consoles so they could be used to play unauthorized, or pirated, copies of videogames. 

The enterprise supposedly targeted popular consoles such as the Nintendo Switch, the Nintendo 3DS, the Nintendo Entertainment System Classic Edition, the Sony PlayStation Classic, and the Microsoft Xbox.

“These defendants were allegedly leaders of a notorious international criminal group that reaped illegal profits for years by pirating video game technology of U.S. companies,” said Acting Assistant Attorney General Brian C. Rabbitt of the Justice Department’s Criminal Division. 

“These arrests show that the department will hold accountable hackers who seek to commandeer and exploit the intellectual property of American companies for financial gain, no matter where they may be located.”

US President and his wife, 50-year-old First Lady Melania Trump, had tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 after Hope Hicks, a close adviser to the president, also tested positive, with Mr. Trump suffering from fever and fatigue, taking an “antibody cocktail” along with several vitamin supplements, while wife Melania is presenting very mild symptoms, following a “precautionary” trip to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland.

White House Press Secretary Kelly McEnany said that Trump would be “working at the presidential offices at Walter Reed for the next few days, having made” the trip via Marine One, a specialized Sikorsky VH-3D Sea King helicopter, and will make use of the president’s suite at Walter Reed that includes a kitchen, secure conference room, and its own intensive care unit (ICU). The White House chief of staff and Trump’s physician also have their own accommodations on the campus. 

The sprawling medical facility, formerly known as Bethesda Naval Hospital, sits across the street from the National Institutes for Health (NIH) campus, the US’ nerve center for research into the respiratory illness. The hospital has taken care of several US presidents over the years, including Ronald Reagan, who temporarily passed his powers of office to his vice president, George H.W. Bush, in 1985 before receiving surgery to remove polyps from his colon.

However, White House spokesperson Judd Deere made clear to reporters on Friday that Trump had “absolutely not” transferred his powers to Vice President Mike Pence during his stay at Walter Reed.
