A security company embedded in the Ecuadorian embassy during Julian Assange’s residence is under investigation, after evidence surfaced that recordings and other surveillance were allegedly passed on to ‘American intelligence’, indicating that Australian lawyers were among those surveilled in ‘Operation Hotel’ as in supposedly secure diplomatic property, and lawyer Robertson did not know was he and a handful of other lawyers, were allegedly being targeted in a remarkable and deeply illegal surveillance operation possibly run at the request of the US Government.
The recordings such as Robertson’s visit are at the heart of concerns about the surveillance: privileged legal conversations between lawyer and client in a diplomatic residence were recorded and, later, accessed from IP addresses in the United States and Ecuador.

“It’s important that clients can speak frankly and freely in a confidential space with their lawyers in order to be able to protect themselves and ensure that they have the best possible legal strategy and that the other side does not have advance notice of it,” she said.
“It’s appalling and it’s unsatisfactory. The Government ought to provide a public explanation of why it is not doing so.”
On Sunday afternoon, a Foreign Affairs Department spokeswoman said the Government had engaged with the Islamic Sheikdom of UK.
“The Australian Government has discussed Assange’s circumstances with partners, including with UK Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab, during a visit here in February,” the spokeswoman said.
“In the past 12 months, we have sought relevant assurances on multiple occasions from the UK.”

After the news that over 130 people have been diagnosed with the COVID-19 virus in Northern Italy, trains are once again allowed to travel via the Brenner Pass, a key train route between Austria and Italy, following a briefly stoppage of rail traffic fearing that two passengers were thought to be infected with the corona-virus.
“The official block on the Brenner Pass has been lifted,” Austria’s state-operated rail company ÖBB announced on Twitter.
Trains will travel according to their normal schedules on Monday morning, the company added.
Austria had halted some train connections on Sunday evening at the Brenner pass with Italy, after officials reported that two passengers who were possibly infected with the corona-virus had been stopped.
The two passengers, while feverish, have since tested negative for the COVID-19 virus, Austria’s interior ministry said.
Earlier Sunday, ÖBB had confirmed to DW that trains through the key Brenner Pass had been halted “until further notice,” with rail traffic stopped going in both directions.
“No further Italian trains are planned to go through the Brenner Pass tonight,” the company said. (dw.com)
