RENO, Nev. – A local area man identified as Eric Blair McCartt, aka Aeryne McCartt, 37, of Reno, was sentenced to 25 years in prison for producing images of child sexual abuse involving multiple minor victims under the age of 12 years old, following an investigation by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Las Vegas, pleading guilty in Jan. 2019, to producing child pornography. According to court documents, McCarrtt joined a chat group dedicated to trading child sexual abuse materials, using two prepubescent minor victims known to him to produce images of child sexual abuse including photographing his own genitalia on the victims’ faces while they were sleeping. He distributed these images to others in the chat group, and some of the images were posted to the internet. Several of the images were found on the computer of another individual in another country.

“With this sentencing, we have removed a dangerous child predator from the community and sent a categorical message that we are committed to aggressively investigate anyone who seeks to exploit our most vulnerable population – our children,” said Francisco Burrola, special agent in charge for HSI Las Vegas.
“Child pornography, when it’s released on the internet, lives on forever to haunt the innocent children whose abuse is depicted in the images. While we cannot undo the damage of his horrible crimes, we hope that this sentence helps with the healing process for his victims and families.”

Four members of the ‘Proud Boys’ organization were charged by a federal grand jury with conspiring to impede Congress on 6 January, a new superseding indictment unsealed indicates, that all four defendants are the leaders of Proud Boys divisions in their respective states: Ethan Nordean of Washington, Joseph Biggs of Florida, Zachary Rehl of Pennsylvania and Charles Donohoe of North Carolina. They were charged with conspiring to encourage members of the group to attend the “Stop the Steal” protest in Washington, DC on 6 January.

They supplied paramilitary equipment used during the storming of the Capitol, dismantled metal barriers set up around the building, and communicated using handheld radios and messaging applications, the indictment alleges.

Research shows that intimate partner homicides are troublingly common, with CDC statistics indicating that roughly 1 in 6 homicide victims are killed by an intimate partner, and tragically, Texas accounts for 10 percent of the nation’s domestic violence homicides, hence in June 2019, Attorney General William P. Barr formed a Domestic Violence Working Group in order to encourage prosecution of armed domestic violence offenders.

SAN ANTONIO — Special agents with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Homeland Security Investigation (HSI) filed a criminal complaint charging an Austin man with transporting undocumented immigrants resulting in death, as on March 17, Sebastian Tovar, 24, from Austin, appeared in federal court and was charged for his role in a conspiracy to transport undocumented immigrants resulting in death.

According to court documents, Tovar was traveling in a maroon pickup truck on FM 2523 near Del Rio when a DPS trooper attempted to stop him for speeding. Tovar failed to stop, and a pursuit ensued. Tovar led the trooper on a chase for approximately 50 miles, at times reaching speeds over 100 miles per hour. Traveling north into the southbound lane on Highway 277, Tovar collided with another vehicle head-on, resulting in the death of eight undocumented immigrants that had been in Tovar’s pickup truck.

President Biden has responded to his Russian counterpart’s invitation to a livestreamed conversation, saying he expects to speak him at some unspecified future date:

“I’m sure we’ll talk at some point,” Biden said, and when asked about whether he would impose more sanctions against Russia, he clarified “that will come in time”, refusing to give a timeframe for any possible discussion with Putin, but the Russian president said he would be ready to speak to his US counterpart as early as Friday or on Monday.

Putin invited Biden for the livestream talks a day after the US president agreed with ABC News correspondent and former Clinton aide George Stephanopoulos’s characterization of the Russian leader as a “killer.” Biden went on to promise that Putin would “pay a price” over Russia’s alleged meddling in the 2020 presidential election.

Putin brushed off the “killer” epithet, wishing the US leader “good health” and suggesting that Biden may have projected US guilt for things like slavery and the mistreatment of Native Americans onto Russia. The Kremlin, however, suggested that the remarks signaled that Washington has no desire to improve relations.

Germany may not be able to relax lockdown measures in the run-up to Easter, as the country’s health minister Jens Spahn made his comments at Germany’s Robert Koch Institute (RKI) for infectious diseases, warning that case numbers were rising at a “very clearly exponential rate”:

“The rising case numbers may mean that we are unable to take any further steps towards opening up in the weeks to come. On the contrary, we may even have to take steps backwards,” Spahn said.

Health authorities say highly contagious variants have driven up case numbers in the EU’s biggest country, which is entering a third wave of the disease.

Spahn said such a wave could not be stopped by vaccinations alone, amid a sluggish rollout of the shots across the EU as a whole:

“There are not yet enough vaccine doses in Europe to stop the third wave by vaccination alone,” says Spahn.

“Even if the deliveries from EU orders come reliably, it will still take a few weeks until the risk groups are fully vaccinated.”

He said he would be in favor of signing a national supply deal with Russia for its Sputnik V vaccine for COVID-19:

“I can also well imagine that we conclude contracts — and conclude them quickly,” he told a weekly news conference.

“I am actually very much in favor of us doing it nationally if the European Union does not do something.”

Sinus vein thrombosis led to a halt to AstraZeneca’s vaccine in many countries, since in sinus vein thrombosis, a blood clot clogs the veins in the brain that are normally the route oxygen-depleted blood takes to drain to the heart, but  if the blood can no longer drain properly, the pressure in the brain increases further bleeding that can occur there, and unfortunately in the worst case, sinus vein thrombosis leads to fatal strokes. 

For safety reasons, vaccination with the Oxford vaccine from AstraZeneca  has been suspended in many countries until further notice, including in Germany, and so far, seven cases of so-called sinus vein thrombosis have occurred in 1.6 million people vaccinated with AstraZeneca. At the same time, the affected individuals were also found to be deficient in platelets, which can affect blood clotting.

“The United States remains fully committed to the defense of the Republic of Korea, using the full range of US capabilities, including our extended deterrent,” US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin warned North Korea that American troops were ready to “fight tonight” after the nation’s leadership condemned the resumption of military exercises between Washington and Seoul:

“There is no daylight between us on this point.”

During a joint news conference with Secretary of State Antony Blinken and South Korean counterparts, Austin told a panel that the Biden administration and the US military remained committed to the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, among other objectives.

He further stated that the “importance of maintaining military readiness” remained one of the top focus points on his agenda.

“Our force remains ready to fight tonight and we continue to make progress toward the eventual transition of wartime operational control to an ROK-commanded future combined forces command,” he said.
“While meeting all the conditions for this transition will take more time, I’m confident that this process will strengthen our alliance,” the Pentagon chief continued.
